Inspiring Conversations with Mario Gracia of Thank You Records

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mario Gracia

Hi Mario, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I was younger, my dad would always take us with him when he had performances. Bazaars at the church, weddings, 15’s all that type of stuff. When we got older he even made me his roadie, I saw how the crowd reacted when he would finish songs and it felt awesome to see my own father shine you know?
I grew up in a music family so every weekend was more like a party at my welas house man. I then wanted to actually start making music, I went to Archive studios, my friend Jason was building from the ground up, and I saw how hungry he was to actually start recording people. Well at the time it was a lot more different, nerves hit me as soon as he turned on the mic and I couldn’t, so we just wound up to making beats. Then out of nowhere, I got this confidence like “Man I can really do this type of stuff” and it clicked ever since then. Now I’m three albums deep about to release my 4th and it’s the most beautiful feeling when people tell me the lyrics from my songs touch their souls and help them keep going. I love this type of stuff so so much.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly I wouldn’t be the man I am without my past, the past builds your future as some would say. I seen a lot of things that young kids aren’t supposed to see. Abuse mentally and physically. Me and my older brother Armando basically made it through hell and back, and I’m glad I had an older brother to help me cope through everything. Loss took a big role in my life too, losing my mom at such a young age kind of made me realize that anyone and I mean anyone can leave at any point in time. Shout out to my Wela and welo who held it down, raising me since I was 3 years old. And another thing, loneliness is real and it’s not hard to talk to people that you’re close to you at all, I still feel like I struggle with mental stuff all the time. We just need to talk man.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I recently started a small record label. It includes, Gracia (me), Alex1s, and Phantom Senoj. All of us are locked in all the time and studio time is one of the best times cause we all get along so well. Thank You Records
The name comes from my last name, which is also my artist name, well if I add an “s” to it it’s thank you but still very nice that I’m putting my families name on the map.

What makes you happy?
Honestly, making music constantly makes me very happy. Hanging out with my little brother AJ and just being an older brother makes my life a lot happier. Going out and clearing my head also helps me be happy, not afraid to say it but I do consider myself to be a lone person that keeps to himself. So if I have to go literally anywhere by myself, it’ll make me happy.
