Today we’d like to introduce you to Maurita Byers.
Hi Maurita, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I once used to struggle with my skin, especially in middle school. I was always labeled as the girl with the stuff on her face. It sent me into depression for a while. Over time I became a little older. I started finding products that worked for my skin and eventually, it cleared, and my confidence started to shine again. I didn’t know what I wanted to be in life, but I did know I’ve always had love for the beauty industry, especially skin. I did some research and learned about being an esthetician. I eventually put myself in school as part-time for night classes while I was working. A year later, I graduated and became licensed. So now as an licensed esthetician my mission is to help everyone feel amazing and beautiful.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly at first yes it was an easy path because I had saved all my money and started my own business. But as months went on my clientele wasn’t expanding and money was getting low. I went in thinking my business was gone be booming and that wasn’t the case at all. It was times I wanted to throw in the towel and closed my shop down. But deep down I knew this was my dream and I wasn’t going to give up. Boy did it humble me though. It’s true about having good days and bad days, and I’m here to say my bad days definitely out weighted my good days. Building clientele is hard and a lot of people don’t tell you the struggle behind it. But if you stay consistent and put in the work them bad days will start getting better over time. I just keep telling myself Beyonce wasn’t Beyoncé in one day.
As you know, we’re big fans of Glow Esthetics. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
I’m a licensed esthetician and cosmologist who specializes in facials and waxing. I’m mostly known for my luxury facials. What sets me apart from others is my personality and my vibe through the experience. I want you to feel like this is a safe zone for you to release any problems or stress. I’m most proud brand-wise is the clientele are starting to take off. My name is starting to finally ring bells
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Right now, the beauty industry is always growing with new things. So, it makes me want to learn more and stay busy. Right now, I’m in the process of trying to take classes on other trades in the industry so of course I can add to the list. 5-10 years from now I want a beauty bar with so many things to offer. I want my business to be a one-stop shop for my clients. I want everyone to come to me and be pampered all day.
