Inspiring Conversations with Dr. Megan Garzaglass of CMS

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Megan Garzaglass.

Megan Garzaglass Ph.D., LPC-S, RPT-S

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I truly believe 1% better is progress. I strive to follow this and pass this message on to my clients. I currently am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) Registered Play Therapist Supervisor (RPT-S). I am a certified early childhood-12 graded special education teacher and certified school counselor. Additionally, I have my master’s degree in counseling and my PhD in counselor education and supervision.

The process of my education and licensure was a journey of my own self-awakening. I think it is important as a counselor and counselor education to have the skills to reflect and improve yourself before you can assist others. One tool that has carried me through many obstacles is to take to time to acknowledge what is works. I believe when a person is able to step back and see the positive aspects of even a negative situation you then allow your mindset to create your happiness, versus waiting for your happiness to determine your mindset.

Currently am the Founder and Clinical Director of my own business, in which I use Aquatic Relational Experiential Therapy (ARET). This therapeutic approach facilitates individual client experiences/challenges within the aquatic–client–therapist relationship. The approach is derived from aspects of experiential and play therapy teachings.

I currently use this approach in my practice seen as a nontraditional approach to play therapy based on the relationship growth and positive experience for all levels infant to adult. My article on ARET is published in the The Humanistic Psychologist Journal: The buoyant self: A conceptual journey of aquatic relational experiential therapy.

As part of self-awareness my journey to define my therapy and the work I am currently doing, I had to fully embrace my own idea of buoyancy of letting go of what I could not control to be able to focus on what I could and allow the therapy approach to define itself.

For the past 10 years, I have provided counselor services. I currently am also am a counselor supervisor and a graduate professor for student counselors. I have over 25 years experience in working in school, residential treatment, private care, and outpatient settings. My theoretical framework is grounded within experiential and person-centered therapy; I have used ARET techniques for almost years and am the creator and founder of Aquatic Relational Experiential Therapy.

Some of my specialties are working with trauma, anxiety, ADHD, and helping adults focus on life coaching. For over 16 years, I have worked with families and youth and developed and organized parent trainings. I believe with the correct tools, support, and commitment that anything is possible and that everyone is capable of creating their own future 1% at a time.

As you know, we’re big fans of CMS LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?

Is where my information can be found to locate my counseling supervision practice. Additionally, I accept insurance, and clients can sign up through their insurance to see me at this link https://headway.co/providers/megan-garzaglass

My private page for coaching, supervision, counseling, and public trainings is https://www.cmsdrcoach.net/.

I offer counseling and supervision for LPC and RPT. Additionally, I am available for hire for trainings and motivational public speaking.

I really focus on growth mindset and the idea of watering the flowers to choke out the weeds. I think when you can find out what is going right and being to focus on this and less on what is going wrong you will find your success.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
Positive mindset allows you to see what is working and continue on that path. When you find what is going right and stay with this mindset it allows you to continue to focus on what is working. I guess those may call this luck, but it really is about prospective.
