Today we’d like to introduce you to MICHAEL G. DAVIS.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey has never really been about selling real estate—it has always been about creating opportunities for people.
In 2008, my business partner, Larry W. Brooks, and I founded Brooks & Davis Real Estate Firm with a vision to build a company that put people, education, and integrity first. Like many entrepreneurs, our journey wasn’t easy. Just one year later, Hurricane Ike severely damaged our office, destroying much of what we had worked so hard to build. We temporarily operated our brokerage from plastic storage crates, but we refused to let our circumstances determine our future. That experience taught me one of the greatest lessons of my career: resilience isn’t about avoiding adversity—it’s about continuing to serve when things are at their toughest.
As the real estate market evolved, so did we. We helped homeowners navigate the foreclosure crisis through short sales, expanded into residential, commercial, and investment real estate, and grew Brooks & Davis into one of Houston’s respected independent brokerages. Along the way, I discovered that my greatest passion wasn’t simply closing transactions—it was helping people build wealth, develop businesses, and realize opportunities they never thought possible.
That passion has led me beyond brokerage. Today, I have the privilege of serving as President of the Houston Black Real Estate Association, where I work alongside incredible leaders who are committed to expanding homeownership, increasing economic opportunity, and strengthening our communities. Whether I’m mentoring agents, speaking to first-time homebuyers, building partnerships, or leading Brooks & Davis, my mission remains the same: to help people move from simply participating in real estate to creating lasting ownership and generational wealth.
Looking back, every challenge has prepared me for the work I’m doing today. Looking ahead, I’m even more excited. I believe the future of real estate isn’t just about helping more people buy homes—it’s about helping more people own assets, build businesses, develop leaders, and leave a legacy that changes families and communities for generations.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t believe most meaningful journeys are smooth, and mine certainly wasn’t.
Just one year after my business partner, Larry W. Brooks, and I launched Brooks & Davis Real Estate Firm, Hurricane Ike severely damaged our office and destroyed much of what we had worked so hard to build. For a period of time, we literally operated our brokerage from plastic storage crates. Rather than seeing that as the end of our story, we chose to see it as an opportunity to rebuild stronger.
Not long after, the 2008–2009 housing crisis dramatically changed the real estate industry. Instead of resisting change, we adapted by helping homeowners navigate one of the most difficult periods in the housing market through short sales and foreclosure prevention. Years later, we faced another major challenge when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted businesses and communities around the world. Once again, we leaned into innovation, strengthened our systems, and found new ways to continue serving our clients and developing our agents.
Like every entrepreneur, there were seasons of uncertainty—times when cash flow was tight, key team members moved on, and difficult decisions had to be made. At the same time, I carried the responsibility of leading a business while providing for my wife and our family. Those experiences taught me that leadership isn’t about avoiding adversity; it’s about remaining steady when others are looking to you for direction.
Looking back, I’m grateful for every challenge because each one strengthened my faith, sharpened my leadership, and reinforced a lesson I carry with me today: resilience isn’t measured by what you avoid—it’s measured by how you respond and who you become in the process.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Brooks & Davis Real Estate Firm was built on the belief that real estate is about much more than buying and selling property—it’s about creating opportunities that change lives.
We are a full-service real estate brokerage serving buyers, sellers, investors, commercial clients, and real estate professionals throughout the Greater Houston area. While we are proud of the transactions we help facilitate every day, what truly sets us apart is our commitment to education, leadership development, and community impact.
We believe informed clients make better decisions, so we invest heavily in educating the people we serve. Whether it’s hosting first-time homebuyer workshops through our HOME READY initiative, helping families prepare financially for homeownership, or coaching our agents through our Build Momentum program, our goal is always the same: to help people move from uncertainty to confidence and from opportunity to ownership.
We’re also passionate about developing real estate professionals. We don’t simply recruit agents—we help them build businesses, think like owners, and create long-term careers rooted in professionalism, service, and continuous growth. Our culture emphasizes integrity, accountability, collaboration, and a commitment to serving clients at the highest level.
What I’m most proud of isn’t simply the growth of Brooks & Davis—it’s the impact we’ve had on the people connected to our organization. We’ve had the privilege of helping families become homeowners, mentoring agents who have built successful businesses, and partnering with organizations throughout Houston to expand access to housing, financial education, and economic opportunity.
At the end of the day, our mission is simple: we exist to help people build wealth, strengthen communities, and create lasting legacies through real estate. We believe that when you combine education, relationships, and opportunity, homeownership becomes more than a transaction—it becomes a foundation for generational wealth and community transformation.
Our vision is to become one of the nation’s leading organizations for developing real estate professionals, expanding homeownership, and helping families build generational wealth through real estate.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
If your mission aligns with expanding homeownership, developing leaders, strengthening communities, or creating generational wealth, there’s a good chance we should be having a conversation.
One of the things I enjoy most about my work is building relationships, so I’m always open to connecting with people who share a passion for expanding opportunity through real estate.
If you’re looking to buy, sell, invest, or grow your real estate portfolio, Brooks & Davis Real Estate Firm would be honored to help guide you through the process. If you’re a real estate professional looking for coaching, business development, or a brokerage that emphasizes education, collaboration, and long-term growth, we’d love to have a conversation about your goals.
I’m also passionate about collaborating with community organizations, nonprofits, schools, financial institutions, employers, and corporate partners that are committed to increasing homeownership, financial education, and economic opportunity. Some of the most meaningful work we’ve done has come through partnerships that bring resources and education directly into the communities we serve.
If you’re looking for a speaker, panelist, workshop facilitator, or thought partner on topics related to homeownership, wealth building, leadership, or the future of real estate, I always welcome opportunities to share, learn, and collaborate.
Ultimately, the best way to support our work is by becoming part of the mission—whether that’s referring someone who needs guidance, partnering with us on a community initiative, joining Brooks & Davis as an agent, or simply helping us spread the message that homeownership and real estate can be powerful tools for building generational wealth.
