Inspiring Conversations with Mitchell Bage of Maison de Campagne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mitchell Bage.

Mitchell Bage

Hi Mitchell, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Hey there, I’m Mitchell Bage, and I’m the Co-Owner and Creative Director of Maison de Campagne (MDC), a lifestyle brand based right here in Galveston, TX. I was born and raised in Galveston County, Santa Fe, TX, to be exact, and now call Galveston home and love it.

Back in 2000, I started out as a Business Analyst in the Aerospace Industry. It was a solid career, but deep down, my passion for Art, Architecture, and Interior Design never faded. Despite putting those passions on hold for a while, I always knew they were waiting for their moment. After years of helping others achieve their dream homes while working at NASA, I decided it was time to take the leap and create MDC with the support of my husband, Luis. It was a big shift, but it felt right.

MDC’s inspiration comes from my love for the French countryside aesthetic. I’m all about blending rustic charm with refined elegance, creating spaces that are both simple and stunning. My specialty lies in mixing traditional styles with a modern twist, layering different materials to build on classic foundations. Each project is a chance for me to bring my love for interiors to life, and it’s incredibly fulfilling to see my creativity flourish in ways I never imagined.

Now, let’s talk about the journey. Starting and running a business solo is no walk in the park. There are highs and lows, risks, and endless logistics to manage. It’s a balancing act, especially when you’re juggling multiple responsibilities and client needs. There were times when it felt like there weren’t enough hours in the day. It’s not easy, and it definitely takes grit and determination. But through it all, we persevered. It wasn’t until 2020, when COVID hit that we really hit our stride. Since then, we’ve grown and expanded, continually refining our services to meet the ever-growing expectations of our clients. We can now proudly say that we are a nationally recognized and award-winning company and have become the Premier Home Staging and Interior Design company in Galveston County, TX.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a company definitely has its share of highs and lows, especially when you’re navigating the ins and outs of entrepreneurship. It’s a learning curve to juggle client needs with the day-to-day demands of running a business. At the beginning, my husband and I both had full-time jobs, so we hustled on evenings and weekends to build our client base. Sacrificing personal time and family moments was tough, but we knew building something meaningful would require dedication.

2020 threw us some serious curveballs, as it did for many. But it also forced us to reevaluate and reinforce our commitment to our journey. We faced the challenges head-on, and it only strengthened our determination to keep moving forward.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Integrity… We often see lines blurred when doing what’s best for a company. Therefore, it is a daily challenge to ask ourselves if we have met the needs of clients, provided honest insight, and the best product possible. I want every client to feel our company was value-added and instrumental in the success of the end goal.
