Inspiring Conversations with Monica Wentworth of The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Wentworth

Hi Monica, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into medicine began as a young woman accompanying my mother to LBJ Hospital in Houston. We’d visit the hospital, often with a trip to AstroWorld planned afterward. During those visits, I started observing the hospital environment—the patients, the emotions, and especially the presence of a female OB-GYN surgeon who stood out to me. She was a young, powerful woman and an inspiration, showing me that women could be just as impactful and respected in medicine as their male counterparts.

From that moment, I began setting my sights on becoming a doctor. Throughout high school, I joined various activities to strengthen my path to college, and in college, I dedicated myself to my studies and research, particularly in organic chemistry. My goal was to excel academically and participate in as many relevant experiences as possible to prepare for medical school. Once there, I trained in general surgery and eventually specialized in plastic surgery, finding my true passion in helping people feel empowered and confident.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely been a challenging road. Coming from a single-parent household, I knew early on that if I were to become a physician, it would mean taking on student loans and navigating the weight of student debt on my own. In college, I developed a strong work ethic, working full-time at Chili’s to support myself while also striving to maintain top grades and stay competitive for medical school.

After medical school, moving from Houston to California for residency was another big leap, taking me far from home and family. During my general surgery residency, I grew significantly—both as a surgeon and as a person. General surgery exposed me to patients with serious cardiac, lung, pancreatic, and vascular conditions, many of whom faced difficult outcomes. Being so close to my patients and, at times, witnessing them pass away was incredibly hard, but it shaped my compassion and resilience in ways that are central to my practice today.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our practice, The Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery, is committed to providing comprehensive, specialized care for patients interested in enhancing their appearance—from brightening the eyes to helping them feel their best in a bikini. What sets me apart within our organization is my distinct background in reconstructive and general surgery, which allows me to bring a thorough and customized approach to each patient’s procedure, aligning closely with their unique goals. I’m especially proud of maintaining high patient satisfaction, which stems from my commitment to compassionate, personalized care. I truly strive to get to know my patients, aiming not only to perform procedures but also to improve their quality of life in meaningful ways.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Outside of work, some of my favorite memories come from camping and exploring the outdoors with my sister and family. Today, I enjoy hiking and spending time in nature with my husband and children, creating those same cherished experiences.
