Today we’d like to introduce you to Passion Gamble.
Hi Passion, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I live in Houston, TX, but originally from Mobile, AL. I decided to change up the scenery by moving away from home after earning my bachelor’s and master’s from The University of Alabama (Roll Tide!). Now, Houston isn’t my first rodeo; I lived in another part of Texas before, around 2018-2019, but recently moved to Houston after living in Arizona for 4 years. During my time in Phoenix, I discovered I could draw/paint in 2020 during the pandemic and decided to turn my hidden talent into a business to help others’ visions come to life! Outside of being an artist, I work in tech full-time and for a popular athletic brand part-time. I also love roller skating, working out, hanging out with friends, and chilling in the park with my dog.
Also, while in Arizona, a hidden talent wasn’t the only thing I discovered. I am very passionate about health and wellness, and in 2022, after advocating for myself with multiple doctors, I was diagnosed with Cushing’s disease, which is a rare disease that affects 1 out of 2 million people. That’s right, I was that lucky one! Cushing’s is when there is an increased production of cortisol caused by a tumor on the pituitary gland or adrenal glands. Ever since I was diagnosed and got my brain tumor removed, I have used my platform to encourage others to always advocate for themselves, be aware of their bodies, and educate people about Cushing’s. To learn more about my journey with Cushing’s and see my artwork, check out my website at www.passionateflows.com!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being an artist can be challenging sometimes. I say this because we can experience creative blocks where we don’t know what to create, and we have a hard time getting our artwork noticed. Whenever I have a creative block, I work on it by visiting museums, walking around the art district, scrolling through Pinterest, or watching other artists create to get inspiration. I also have been working on getting my artwork noticed more by attending art events that allow me to display my work and connect with other artists to see what techniques work best for them when selling their artwork. I gain most of my customers from word of mouth, but one of my goals is to grow my followers on my art page, so I have been posting on social media more than usual.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I have an art business and it is called Passionate Flows. My main goal for my business is to help others’ vision come to life one paint stroke at a time! I work with acrylic paint and overlay my pieces with resin to give them a glass effect. I have also been tapping into the digital art industry as well. My art is very vibrant, and I tend to lean toward cartoons or silhouettes when creating different pieces, but if someone has a special request, I try my best to bring that customer’s idea to fruition. Since I have been working with digital art lately, I am very proud of the skills I have adopted because it allows me to add my work to different items such as coffee cups, notebooks, and more!
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Yes! I love the book “You Are a Badass. How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life” by Jen Sincero and the Ted Talk called “To accomplish great things, you need to “Let the paint dry” by Daniel J. Watts. I love the book because it helps identify the way you currently think and provide ways you can change your behaviors to start getting what you want in life, and the Ted Talk because it talks about “letting the paint dry,” which I understood to let things process in life to get to the masterpiece you desire. A lot of times in life, we don’t understand why we go through certain things, but if we “let the paint dry” and continue to push through, we will soon get to the bigger meaning.
