Inspiring Conversations with Patricia Goodman, LPC of B’Good Therapy, PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Goodman, LPC.

Hi Patricia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Absolutely. My journey into helping others began over 23 years ago when I started my career as a 5th and 7th-grade math teacher. While I enjoyed teaching, I quickly realized that my true passion was in supporting the whole person—not just their academic success but their emotional and personal development as well. After eight years in the classroom, I became a school counselor, where I spent seven wonderful years working with adolescents, their families, and the larger school community.

Later, I transitioned into an assistant principal role, which allowed me to broaden my reach and impact an even larger audience. Even in this leadership position, I continued to lean on my counseling skills daily. Eventually, all these experiences led me to open my private therapy practice—one that focuses on impactful therapy that brings people peace and clarity, B‘Good Therapy, PLLC.

In addition to my private practice, I’m also the proud co-owner of Counselor’s Compass Consulting Group, PLLC, along with my colleagues Karina Saldana, LPC and Dr. Cynthia Coronado, LPC. Through this consulting group, we visit school districts and work directly with teachers and counselors, focusing on self-awareness and the importance of understanding what’s happening within ourselves. We believe that when educators have a deeper awareness of their own internal processes, they can better connect with and support their students and peers. Our goal is to help guide people toward empowerment and personal growth by first helping them understand what’s going on inside them.

On a personal note, my own upbringing deeply influences the way I work with clients. I was raised in a single-parent household, and statistics would say kids like me are supposed to struggle academically, socially, and emotionally. But I refused to let that define me. I became the first in my family to graduate college, setting a new standard for my siblings, nieces, and cousins. That background gives me a unique understanding of the cycles my clients may feel trapped in—and I help them see that they can break free and create their own story.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely not been smooth—but I think those bumps made me better at what I do. Growing up in a broken home environment where mental health wasn’t openly discussed or understood made it harder for me to navigate my own emotions. Later, balancing a career in education, leadership, private practice, and consulting—while also being a wife and mother—brought its own challenges. But those experiences gave me the insight and compassion that I bring into every therapy session. I know what it feels like to struggle with self-doubt or feel stuck in unhealthy patterns—and I know there’s a way out because I’ve lived it.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My therapy practice is built on the belief that impactful therapy can bring you peace and clarity—those are the exact words in my logo. I specialize in talk therapy, helping clients of all ages link the pieces of their life experiences together in a way that makes sense, so they can find understanding, healing, and direction.

What sets me apart is my ability to connect with a wide range of clients because of my diverse background. I work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families from all walks of life. I help them dig into the root causes of issues like anxiety, self-esteem struggles, trauma, and relationship conflicts—and I guide them in building a stronger mindset to pursue their life goals.

Through Counselor’s Compass Consulting Group, we also extend this mission into the professional world by helping educators and counselors improve their own self-awareness and well-being. By teaching them about polyvagal theory and the mind-body connection, we help them create environments where both they and their students can thrive.

I also bring my real-life experiences to the therapy room. Having come from a challenging background myself, I help clients understand that just because they were raised a certain way doesn’t mean they’re bound to that cycle. There’s hope, and they can move forward with confidence and peace.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Mentorship is huge for me—it’s something I truly hang my hat on. I’ve been a mentor since my second year of teaching, and I’ve always felt called to help others see their potential. One of the things I’m most proud of is being able to help people—whether they’re new teachers, colleagues, or clients—recognize strengths they didn’t know they had and push them toward their goals. It’s something I am very good at and something that brings me a lot of joy.

When it comes to finding your own mentors or building a network, I believe authenticity and connection are key. Be genuine, be open, and don’t be afraid to ask for help or guidance. The right people will show up when you’re ready and willing to learn.
