Hi Priyanka, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Story is long. I have reached where I am today through lot of wandering and false starts. I am contious multipreneur. All my businesses have a purpose. But all of them revolve around animals mainly dogs. After leaving my petroleum geologist corporate job to start a dog sanctuary for older and special needs dogs I realized raising donation was not my strength. So I started real estate business to support my non profit. It made sense to me that non profit should have a fpr profit business to support it vs depending upon outside factors. Real estate business grew and so did the sanctuary. I started getting dogs from seniors who had to move to assisted living. I felt people and their pets belonged together till the end. So when I could not find a true pet friendly assisted liv8ng as a problem solver I needed to do something. I started my own assisted living homes where seniors can bring their pets with them. Taking care of seniors made me realize that senior care is expensive and most seniors do not have enough savings amd most pay for moving to senior living by using equity in their home. But most seniors have to sell as is due to deferred maintenance. So investors scoop up tjese homes. I pivoted my real estate business to where now we help senior fix their homes before selling so they can get the most equity out vs the investors. That is a short version. 🙂
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I had multiple false starts. Before current businesses I started otjers that failed. I started Sustainable Liv8ng Institute that failed 20 years ago. I started yoga studio that failed. I built thriving Furnished corporate rental business between 2010-2015 then AirBnB came and it really impacted my business. But that business taught me that personal touch goes along way. So when I started as a Realtor I made sure my client did not get just another realtor. But rather an advisor. I started as a buyer’s agent and I made sure I pointed everything that was good, bad and the ugly with any house I showed. I brain stormed ideas with clients about how to renovate or open or close walls. As a real estate investor who flipped homes I learned a lot about process, design and costs. I brought that knowledge to my clients and business grew. I puvoted to become a seller’s agent. I provide the concierge service. Instead of telling clients what they need to do I just get it done for them. I stage their homes for free to make sure their homes stand out. It took few years to collect all the decorations and furniture needed for staging but struggle was worth it to stand out of the crowd
We’ve been impressed with Pure Mutts Animal Sanctuary/Rescue & Real Estate – Woodlands Eco Realty/Acorn Manor Assisted Living, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I take care of People, Pets & Properties. My sanctuary is for special needs dogs, hospice and older dogs. My Assisted living is for Seniors with pets. At Acorn Manor we believe in quality of life vs quantity of life. So we throw lots of parties, have fun and laugh a lot. We stand out from the crowd because of all the smiling senior faces people see. As a Certified Senior Advisor and Demntia certified practioner I have a unique expertise to help and guide seniors about senior life planning, senior care and senior living, senior real estate. We have developed several programs to help seniors with life transitions. Our Fix It & List It program helps seniors by fixing and renovating their homes before sale so they can get most equity out of it. Seniors do not pay upfront and do not have to manage the projects. We provide both and get paid at closing. Our Move Now Pay Later program hps seniors move into safe environment when need arises. They can move in and we help sell theri home and get paid for their monthly fee at closing. As a one stop shop our team sort and pack senior’s belongings, do estate sale, do repair and renovations, staging and negotiations etc. We even help seniors move to their next home may it be 55 plus community, Independent liv8ng, Assisted liv8ng or memory care.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I believe every business can be a business with purpose. And that Every business shoukd have triple bottom line People, Planet and Profits. If we take care of people and our planet profits will come. If we only concentrate on profits without caring for people and planet we are doing a disservice to our community and ourselves. We all have a purpose in life. Finding our purpose is the key to happiness. In my case taking care of senior humans and senior dogs makes me happy and content. Helping my real estate clients getting the best value so they can live comfortably without worrying about future makes me feel I make a difference. My real estate clients help me with my sanctuary and my assisted living residents. My assisted living residents families help me with my dogs and become my real estate clients. My animal.lover rescuers and friends bring their parents to my assisted living and use me for their real estate needs. Everything is interconnected and flows together.
