Inspiring Conversations with Roshyn Lewis of Phenomenal Women’s Empowerment Organization

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roshyn Lewis

Hi Roshyn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story is one of resilience, faith, and love. I grew up in a home where both of my parents struggled with addiction, but I watched them transform their lives and maintain their sobriety for many years now. Their journey taught me about the power of redemption and inspired me to believe in second chances.

At 17, I met my husband, and we’ve been together ever since. Over the years, we faced significant challenges, including his battle with addiction, which brought a great deal of chaos into our lives. Despite those struggles, I never gave up on him because I knew the man I had fallen in love with—the man who stood by me during my lowest moments, encouraging me when I felt like giving up on life. I leaned on my faith in God and the belief that he could overcome his struggles.

Through perseverance, love, and unwavering faith, my husband achieved sobriety, and today, we are both 53 years old, living our best lives together. Along the way, I’ve drawn strength from my experiences to create something meaningful: the Phenomenal Women’s Empowerment Organization (PWEO).

PWEO was born out of my passion to help others and provide women with the tools and support they need to overcome their own challenges. Through initiatives like scholarships, community outreach, and mentorship, we’ve been able to transform lives and create a platform for growth and empowerment. My story is not just about overcoming adversity but about using those experiences to inspire others to rise above their circumstances and step into their purpose.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. My journey has been filled with challenges that shaped who I am today. Growing up, I watched both of my parents struggle with addiction, and while they eventually turned their lives around, those early experiences left a lasting impact. Later in life, I faced similar challenges in my relationship when my husband battled addiction. Our lives became chaotic, and navigating those difficult times took an emotional toll on me.

At one point, I was in such a state of depression that I didn’t even realize it. During that period, I had to step away from Phenomenal, which I had started in 2009 as an LLC. My personal life was simply too overwhelming, and I couldn’t give the organization the attention it needed.

But those struggles became stepping stones for my growth. With faith in God, my husband overcame his addiction, and we rebuilt our lives together. I also found healing within myself, which allowed me to restart Phenomenal as a nonprofit when I realized how much the community still needed it. The journey hasn’t been easy, but every challenge has taught me resilience, faith, and the power of second chances. Those lessons now fuel my passion to help others overcome their own struggles and find their strength.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Phenomenal Women’s Empowerment Organization (PWEO) is a nonprofit dedicated to uplifting and empowering women from all walks of life. Our mission is to provide the resources, support, and opportunities women need to thrive in every aspect of their lives—mentally, physically, spiritually, and financially.

What sets us apart is our holistic and personal approach. We focus on creating a strong sisterhood and fostering a safe, supportive environment where women can grow, heal, and achieve their goals. Through programs like scholarships for high school seniors, financial literacy workshops, mentoring, and community outreach initiatives, we work to address some of the most pressing challenges women face today.

We also specialize in providing emotional and financial support to mothers who have lost children to gun violence, helping them navigate unimaginable pain while offering a compassionate support system. This unique focus has resonated deeply within our communities and has become one of the pillars of our organization.

One of the things I’m most proud of brand-wise is the impact we’ve made in inspiring women to believe in themselves and take actionable steps toward their dreams. Whether it’s through feeding the homeless, organizing school supply drives, or hosting networking opportunities, our goal is to empower women to not only overcome their challenges but to become leaders and change-makers in their own right.

What I want readers to know is that PWEO is more than just an organization—it’s a movement. It’s a platform where women find their voice, their confidence, and a community that supports them unconditionally. We are about progress, empowerment, and creating lasting change.

Whether you’re looking for support, mentorship, or an opportunity to give back, PWEO is here for you. We welcome women from all backgrounds and walks of life to join us as we work together to build a brighter, stronger future.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising that most people might not know about me is that I’m on a personal journey to learn how to play the guitar and to become a motivational speaker. While my work with Phenomenal Women’s Empowerment Organization is deeply fulfilling, these personal goals reflect a different side of me—someone who is always eager to learn, grow, and connect with others in new ways.

Learning the guitar is a way for me to challenge myself creatively and step outside of my comfort zone. Becoming a motivational speaker, on the other hand, feels like a natural extension of my passion for empowering others. I want to use my voice to share my story, inspire resilience, and show others that they can rise above life’s challenges.

Most people see me as the founder of an organization, but beneath that is someone constantly evolving, always looking for ways to not only better myself but also connect more deeply with those I serve.
