Inspiring Conversations with Samantha Plomer of Tailored Real Estate Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Plomer.

Hi Samantha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I watched my parents build every home we ever lived in, always with the help of my Grandfather. My Grandpa was a custom home builder in Michigan and still to this day at 94 will still get on the drawing board. I watched them dream up ideas, plan where to put all our rooms, got asked how I wanted to design my room. I fell in love with building homes just as generations before me did. I always had a spark anytime my parents asked more my ideas and they actually used them.

At 10 years old, this was a big deal for me to be designing our family’s new home. Most kids don’t dream of going to a design center and picking out paint colors or flooring materials, I loved it. I thrived in this environment and knew this was my passion. I went to college to pursue a degree in interior design, I was brought back to my childhood of drawing plans and moving rooms around to make that perfect space. I was choosing finishes and innovating new materials for designs. I soon learned I flourished outside of an office space, I couldn’t be stuck on a computer on AutoCAD for 8 hours a day. I needed to find something where I could be out in the Community, in the field where I could put my talents and passion into use in a different way. One of my friends mentioned they were getting their Real estate license and maybe I should try it too.

In my senior year of college, I decided to see if real estate would be something that would work for me, so I started interning for an apartment locating company. The managing broker/owner took be under his wing and I immediately fell in love, I knew I wanted to make it a career. I love not doing the same thing everyday and always staying on my toes. I love to be out in the field and working with the community hands on, I was already getting to see how buying a home or leasing a new apartment could change someone’s life. So I thought I would blend my love of decorating into a career I would want to do forever. I started Real Estate in college interning for an apartment locating company, I knew I wanted to make it a career. I love not doing the same thing everyday and always staying on my toes. I knew I couldn’t sit in a cubicle all day working a desk job. I love to be out in the field and working with people hands on. I went to school for interior design but soon learned that was not always field work. So I thought I would blend my love of decorating into a career I would want to do forever. So at 22, I got my real estate license and now help run the Tailored Real Estate Group at Compass with my Partner Kat Robinson.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road, one of my most memorable listings was such a fun challenge. I got the listing from one of my dad’s co-workers who was selling her investment property that had been rented out. She was so embarrassed for me to see the house but I was so excited because it was my first listing and I wanted to jump right in. I had the whole HGTV play by play in my head, I was going to stage it and it was going to be this amazing first listing that everyone would “Ohh” and “ahh” over. I was very wrong. The house was trashed, there had been children, ducks, dogs, and all sorts of animals that were living inside the house. Plus chickens in the backyard. This was in a well established neighborhood and Katy and she had told me it needed some work but of course, I was too excited to hear that. It was my first listing and my first experience in the investment property field. I took cell phone pictures (because I didn’t know any better and it’s not like photoshop would help anything) and got that house listed and in 24 hours we already had 4 offers and I was so excited! It was an experience that was eye opening and challenging all at the same time. It taught me so much in such a short time and I will be forever thankful for that first listing that wasn’t so picture perfect.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Tailored to your life, Tailored Real Estate Group represents the Lands, Lake and Loop of Houston to find the perfect niche for your lifestyle and goals. Lead by Broker Associate, Kat Robinson and Samantha Plomer (me), this group works diligently with goals of dividing and conquering for your exceptional experience. This group is backed by Compass and HAR’s technology and gives back to our communities and the local, state and national associations of Realtors. This year I not only have been working with buyers and sellers, I also transitioned into the Director of Agent Development where I’ve helped all the agents on our team grow their business as well as answer questions anyone on the team had. I’ve taken on more of a leadership role in our team and view my team leader more as a partner in this business and friend who I’m here to support in any way I can. I implemented a 10 week long 5 days a week training program for our new agents we added to the team the beginning of the year. This not only helped them kick start their first year in the business they also had someone they could go to 24/7 to answer questions and mentor them through the year. I’m so proud of all of our team members this year and love being a person they can lean on when they need to bounce ideas off of!

Previously mentioned I went to school for interior design, so when I work with a seller I can stage their property and help them with any re-design if necessary and collaborate with them in ways other agents wouldn’t be able to. For buyers, I can help them turn the house they bought into a home. I can help them visualize how their items will fit in the space and how to help them make it their own. This is my favorite part about working with buyers or sellers and I don’t think anyone can do it quite like I can.

I really strive to be full service and a one stop shop for all my clients. I thrive in new build situations because I understand plans and building code, I love when clients ask me to come to the design center with them (a service I include to all my clients) to I can help them see the full picture of what everything will look like. I love how creative I can be in this industry so much so that I know how to provide these services to other agents!

Since joining Compass I have doubled my production and grown our team production as well. I think between my involvement and building my team I have worked to be a leader in the industry. I hope to join the ranks of some of my mentors by winning this award for HAR!

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I was born and grew up in Katy which is west of Houston! I love being from a small town with easy access to the city.
