Inspiring Conversations with Savannah Watson of Savvy Ray Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Watson.

Savannah Watson

Hi Savannah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My entire life, I have always taken pictures of everything and found true beauty in it. I grew up in a little town called Deer Park, TX.

I did have some trials and tribulations as a child, lost my dad in front of me at the young age of 14. This was traumatizing, but it helped me to be stronger. I was not sure what I wanted to do growing up, but I did know I have always had a huge passion for photography and helping people. I was always looking up ways to open a photography business.

My 20s were a part of my life trying to figure myself out, I was in an on and off relationship for 5 years, did not know what I really wanted with my life, was really struggling with money, and just did not know what I was going to do.

I ended up going to school and taking classes not knowing what I wanted ultimately, and then decided to become a nurse! (Was still never able to get photography out of my mind).

Shortly after getting my nursing license, I met my fiancé when I was 29 years old. We were so head over heels; it was a whirlwind… we ended up getting pregnant with a baby boy in 2020. The next year after that we had one more baby boy in 2021. Now, I had these two little boys to show that you can do anything you set your mind to.

Once I had my first baby boy, it just gave me more drive to start up my passion. I decided I was finally going to go through with my passion- I bought a camera, lens, and laptop. I knew it was going to be a struggle, but I wanted it so bad that I was willing to go above and beyond.

I started my business literally that day and thought of a meaningful name (my Dad that passed aways name, and my baby Boys name) along with my nickname. It was perfect! Now that I had my name, I was so ready. I started out with taking pictures of my friends for practice. I would do photoshoot after photoshoot to get as much practice as humanly possible. I was constantly reading, learning, and practicing at any time I could. If I wasn’t at work being a school nurse- I was being a mom and doing photography constantly.

I was (and AM) in LOVE!

Once I started there was absolutely no stopping me. I realized there was even more costs when you get into photography, you still have to get backdrops, props, stands, flashes…the list is literally endless!

I made all of my social media pages, a website, and everything I needed to start a business. I was constantly advertising because that’s literally all I wanted to do.

Making memories with people that will last a lifetime is HUGE for me. Seeing their faces whenever they get their photos just makes me melt.

After my photographs started improving, my photography business started to grow.

My fiancé and my babies were there for me the entire way. I want anyone to know if they want to do something, just do it right away! No time like the present!

Now for 2024 and beyond, my plan is to grow Savvy Ray Photography to its full potential.

I truly want to help anyone and everyone get the pictures and memories they love AND deserve!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In my 20s I was struggling finding myself and who I wanted to be. Now my priority is to give my family the best life.

As you know, we’re big fans of Savvy Ray Photography. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
My business is Savvy Ray Photography- it is a photography business based in Houston, TX. I specialize in portrait photography, family photography, graduation photography, lifestyle photography, and event photography! I love to photograph everything!

I am known for my bright & airy style- it is a style I have ALWAYS been SO in love with! I absolutely love the look of bright and airy, it looks so whimsical.

What sets me apart from others is I go above and beyond for my clients! My graduation sessions even offer an on-site changing station, with a present at the end for the new graduate!

I am most proud of the clients I’ve had; without them, I wouldn’t have my business… words cannot describe my love for them.

I want your readers to know that Savvy Ray Photography will be there for them for their next photoshoot to make their dreams come to life!

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was a little introverted, but with my close friends, I was very lively and wild. I have always kept my close friends close. My friends that I have now… I have had for 19 years. My best friend of 19 years (Carole) actually just found out last year she had a brain tumor, and it’s inoperable… on top of losing her husband in a motorcycle accident with an 18-wheeler with her on the bike as well about 5 years ago. She’s been through a lot, so I think growing up I was definitely loyal. Loyalty is huge for me. So being loyal to my clients is my TOP priority.
