Hi Shanteria, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Silky Smooth Essentials in 2018, originally doing mobile waxing and seeing only about 17 clients a month. It wasn’t sustainable, but I stayed committed so I could build my skill and stay active in the industry. In 2019, I made the decision to move into a suite even though I was nervous about the overhead. That decision helped my client base grow significantly.

A major turning point came in October 2019 when I met our hard wax manufacturer. That meeting led to the formulation of our very own hard wax, and by January 2020, I received our first official batch. That was the moment I knew the brand had real potential.

In 2020, right as I was transitioning out of my suite, the pandemic hit — but I still signed the lease for the storefront we’re in today. It was a leap of faith. I faced delays, contractor issues, and financial challenges, but when we were allowed to reopen, I worked nonstop to rebuild and grow the business.

Since then, Silky Smooth Essentials has developed its own hard wax line, a full aftercare skincare line, and a reputation for quality service and a strong client experience. Today, the brand continues to grow because of consistency, discipline, and real results.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of my biggest early challenges was low client volume. As a mobile waxer I was only seeing about 17 clients a month, which wasn’t sustainable. Moving into a suite helped me grow, but I still struggled financially while investing in product development and working with labs to create our own wax and skincare products.

In 2020, my lease ended right as the pandemic began. I didn’t renew the suite because it wasn’t the right fit, and instead I took a leap of faith and signed the lease for our current storefront during the shutdown. I faced construction delays, unreliable contractors, and financial setbacks. When we were allowed to reopen, I worked six days a week to rebuild.

Silky Smooth Essentials is a waxing studio and skincare brand specializing in high-quality hair removal and targeted aftercare solutions.
