Inspiring Conversations with Steve Huynh of Thistle and Grace Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steve Huynh

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey started in the healthcare field as a paramedic, and I was also studying to become a nurse. During my studies, I began helping out with breakdowns and sometimes even set-ups for a floral and decor company on weekends. I quickly fell in love with the industry, and over time, I was presented with the opportunity to work in it full-time. I spent 13 years honing my skills and gaining experience, and with the support of my partner, I decided to take the leap and start my own company—Thistle & Grace Design.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
t hasn’t always been a smooth road, but those bumps along the way have been part of the journey. Transitioning from a healthcare career to the floral and decor industry was a big shift, and there were definitely moments of uncertainty. Starting my own business came with its own set of challenges—balancing the creative aspects with the logistics and financial side of running a company, building a client base, and managing all the little details that come with being a business owner. However, the support from my partner, amazing coordinators, and wonderful clients has been invaluable. Their encouragement and trust in my vision have helped me push through the tough times and keep moving forward. Thanks to them, Thistle & Grace Design has been able to grow and thrive.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about Houston is its diversity and energy. The city has such a rich mix of cultures, and you can see it in everything—from the food scene to the arts and even the local events. There’s always something going on, and the people here are incredibly welcoming, which makes it easy to feel at home. Houston is a place where creativity and innovation are celebrated, and that’s something I really appreciate as a business owner.

What I like least about Houston is the traffic. It can be pretty overwhelming at times, especially with the city’s growth. But even with the congestion, it’s hard to ignore all the wonderful things Houston has to offer, so it’s something you learn to work around!
