Today we’d like to introduce you to Sylvia Floyd.
Hi Sylvia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Honestly, I can remember asking my mom when I was 16 what do I have to do to be a shop owner. My mom was a cosmetologist and she also worked at the state board of cosmetology in Louisiana; so I was around hair all my life. So at a young age, I was always intrigued, but honestly, I just wanted to be a shop owner.
Although I just wanted to own barbershops I still decided to go to school for barbering because I felt that I needed to master the craft of the business I wanted to own. I went to Barber College and fell in love with the craft. I fell in love with transforming people. I fell in love with the confidence I was able to give someone with such a simple thing as a haircut. I worked in one barbershop to learn the ropes as far as the do’s and don’t before branching off to my own business entity.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To be honest there were a few obstacles/challenges.
The road to success will never be easy. I faced obstacles in finding a building. I face obstacles to being short on cash because I funded everything out of my pocket so I wouldn’t have to pay back anything. Some days I lacked the confidence to keep pushing but God constantly reminded me of my purpose so that was my ammunition.
