Hi Tamika, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Although I earned a degree in Information Systems Technology from the University of Houston and worked as a Learning & Development Manager, my true passion has always been in the beauty industry. That passion led me to pursue my cosmetology license and gain hands-on experience through various part-time roles—including makeup advisor, hairstylist, and wax specialist.
As I honed my skills and built my clientele, I noticed how uneasy many clients felt during intimate waxing services. I became committed to creating a space that felt welcoming, respectful, and comfortable for everyone.
In 2013, after being laid off from my full-time position, I chose not to return to my previous field. Instead, I took a leap of faith and turned my passion into a purpose. That leap gave birth to BellaMe Wax & Lash Studio—a place where beauty meets care and comfort.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey wasn’t without its struggles. When you decide to open a business on your own, you’re not just offering a service—you’re building a clientele and creating a brand people can trust.
In the beginning, I had no reviews and relied on Groupon to gain visibility. Understandably, some potential clients were hesitant because they weren’t familiar with my business. But I didn’t let that discourage me. I stayed consistent, focused on delivering great service, and over time, the reviews started rolling in. Soon, happy clients were referring their friends and family—and that’s when the real growth began.
