Today we’d like to introduce you to Taneka Walker.
Hi Taneka, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started The Scalp Boss as a spa that focuses on restoring confidence one strand at a time. I know this because I have gone through the process myself and it is ongoing. I empathize with my clients as I battle thinning edges, alopecia, scarring from an accident, and other issues. I understand how important it is to look good and feel good. I want to provide education and support to people that want to restore their confidence.
Over time I learned that I was not taking the best care of myself, I neglected myself, and my self-care routine was lacking and at some points, non-existent. I focused on facials, microdermabrasion, and finding skin care products that met my needs. I traveled to a specialist in Washington, DC just to receive specialized care for my scarring from an accident. Now I am working to offer options through PRP, micro-needling, and other techniques that have made me feel rejuvenated.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been smooth, being a small business owner is challenging. Starting a business during the pandemic has been exceptionally challenging. There were classes to take and working through all the steps to put a company out is exhausting. There is truly a lot of work that has to be done long before your doors are opened. All these steps on top of the restrictions of Covid-19 have been a lot to overcome. Despite these challenges, I have persevered, it has not been easy, but things are starting to line up. Building momentum in a slumping economy and finding a way to connect is a full-time job along with running the business.

Statistics suggest that hair loss affects millions of men and women in our country. If you are one of them, chances are you are looking for a solution that will meet your needs. We are proud to offer an emergent treatment that has quickly developed a proven track record of success: PRP therapy.
Platelet-rich plasma has a long history of medicinal use related to tissue healing and regeneration. It is no surprise that this therapy has made its way into the field of hair restoration.
How does PRP work for hair restoration?
The primary purpose of PRP treatment for hair loss is to stimulate activity in the hair follicles. This may prompt an active phase of hair growth in follicles that have become inactive. PRP injections into the scalp may also support the active phase of newly implanted hair follicles. This occurs through the action of various growth factors.
Microneedling creates microscopic openings in the surface of the skin. It causes the tissue to develop new collagen and elastin, resulting in smoother, firmer skin. The treatment is completely non-surgical and requires little downtime.
PEP Factor is an advanced scalp and skin rejuvenation treatment formulated by doctors and scientists to offer options outside of surgery for achieving healthy-looking, healthier-looking hair for both men and women. Pep Factor was designed to deliver never seen results by utilizing the world’s first natural and bio-identical polypeptide to stimulate the body’s scalp and skin for unsurpassed results.
Microneedling is a rejuvenating skin treatment that addresses:
• Wrinkles and fine lines
• Hyperpigmentation
• Sun damage
• Mild inelasticity
• Acne scars
• Large pores
• Rough skin
• Dull skin
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Networking events are a must, and putting yourself out there. Mentors can be a little hard to come by and mentors are not to be taken lightly or for granted. Finding a mentor is more than selecting someone or them choosing you. There is a process of figuring out if they are a good fit for growth, not necessarily a good fit from a personality standpoint. The best mentors take you out of your comfort zone and make you dig deeper. If you are not being challenged, then you may have found a colleague or a friend but a mentor should help you to reach new heights.
