Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Sugars.
Taylor, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I studied Residential Interior Design at San Diego State University while simultaneously taking on my first design job as an assistant at a small boutique firm specializing in eco-luxurious residential interiors. By the time I received my degree, I already had 2 years of full-time experience under my belt, helping me secure a Designer position at another firm in the area, which is where I spent the next 5 years cultivating my knowledge, craft, and deep passion for residential interiors. I got to work on a wide range of projects, from small bathroom renovations to multi-million-dollar new build projects with a team of extremely hard-working and close-knit women who inspired me daily.
After having our first child in November of 2020, my husband and I decided it was time to move back to my home state of Texas to be closer to family. While my intention was to continue working for the same design firm from our new home state, my boss and dear friend/mentor and I decided quickly that the distance meant difference circumstances. I opened my own design firm in July of 2021.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t know if any entrepreneur can ever say the road less traveled is totally “smooth,” but I can say that through extremely hard work and dedication, I am lucky enough to have a book of business that has kept our firm consistently busy since opening!
We’ve been impressed with Sugars & Co. Design Group, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Specializing in custom residential interiors, Sugars & Co. prioritizes their clients’ needs to curate spaces that reflect authentic & refined aesthetic. ___________
I am most proud of being 100% referral-based for the last two years. The biggest compliment I could ever receive is in our clients feeling satisfied enough to recommend our services to their friends and family.
___________
Our specialty is in space planning and renovating, which has given us the unique opportunity to be the perfect match for clients seeking to optimize their floorplans and overall space flow. We offer services that include 2D & 3D modeling, which is vital for contractor, architect, and client communication, and stay with the client every step of the way through Project Management services. We have established relationships with over 80 furniture, lighting, and decor vendors to finish the space seamlessly following the building phase (which can be the most fun for clients as this is where the before & after magic really happens!)
What I want readers to know most is that our firm does not specialize in any one design taste, as we find that growing to our clients’ taste and needs is what makes our job so much fun! If you see more “modern” or “transitional” designs on our website or Instagram this month, know that we’re also doing “traditional” and “contemporary” designs elsewhere. We absolutely love being able to serve all our clients equally and continuing to grow as designers and service providers in every sense. While the majority of our work comes in the form of super-involved renovations and new-build projects, we do also provide E-Design services for smaller refreshes or clients who prefer to take on more of the workload themselves. There is no job too small, so please don’t feel intimated to reach out and begin the conversation about what you’re looking for!
