Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Neighbors, friends, and bakers for years, we have had two very different paths that led us to establish The Art of Flour Bakery. We would joke about how cool it would be to bake the world a better place and then one day, we decided to give it a shot. We discovered that for all our differences, we had this common thread of style, value, and most importantly, humor. Our baker jokes are almost as funny as our mom jokes. So we decided to take a WHISK and go for it!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Struggles are simply opportunities that require a new perspective. The day to day investment of time and resources required to build a business with local brand recognition is limitless. In our niche, it has to taste as good as it looks, if not better. We hold ourselves to a very high standard and we do our very best to consistently deliver. The truth is that in order to reach that mark every time, we have to be flexible, willing to make mistakes and learn from everything.

It’s not just sugar and sprinkles all the time. We work hard to make the rainbows happen!

We also source high quality ingredients in everything we make. Current economic trends have small business owners like us working within tight restraints. Despite the increasing costs of everything from eggs to butter to chocolate, we maintain a commitment to finding the best way to serve our customers. We believe everyone should be able to enjoy an artisan dessert, so we have found innovative ways to create different product offerings.

For example, for those who don’t necessarily want to purchase an entire layered decorated cake, we developed our Art Of Flour Cake Bites that are a personal size cake experience. Each one has a touch of buttercream, cake, and icing and are uniquely decorated.

The Art Of Flour offers more than just dessert for the party. Our Macaron Towers and Cupcake Bouquets are often used as centerpieces, which allows them to serve more than one purpose. These edible works of art become anchoring decorative elements at any event.

While we believe in indulgence, we also hold mindful consumption as one of our core values. We offer our clients the option of favor packaging so guests can take desserts home. It leaves guests with a sharable, memorable, and experiential gift while allowing the host to be a conscious gift giver.

We’ve been impressed with The Art of Flour Bakery, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We create edible art through our versatile offerings of classic desserts with modern flavors. While french macarons, specialty cakes and cupcake bouquets are our signature artisan desserts, The Art of Flour also creates a variety of desserts like gourmet cake bites, cookies, and bakery bars to meet our clients’ needs.

Our french macarons offer the perfect balance of textures. At first bite, the crisp shell gives way perfectly to a soft and airy interior with a decadent and flavorful filling.

Our cakes are made to deliver the perfect proportion of soft cake layers and scratch made fillings, buttercreams, and ganaches so every bite satisfies the palate.

Our realistic floral cupcake bouquets are hand crafted and assembled. These bouquets can serve as a wonderful personal gift or as a stunning feature for an event.

Delicious taste is not the only focus – it has to also look exceptional. We eat with our eyes first! We design our products with great attention to detail. Everything can be custom colored and handcrafted to complement any event palette.

One of our favorite ways to connect with our community is working with local businesses, organizations, and establishments to create custom logo treats and gifts for fundraisers, team and client appreciation, and special occasions. In the spirit of community, we are very proud of our fundraising efforts! We continue to donate to local schools and charity organizations including the MD Anderson, World Central Kitchen, and MS150 Texas.

Our greatest joy and honor is to help our clients celebrate life’s moments. The Art of Flour specializes in creating the perfect dessert experience for milestones, big and small. We are always humbled to be trusted with this task and it’s never taken lightly. It’s a huge compliment when a client refers us or thinks of us again for their next occasion. The best rewards come from our clients words, “It’s too pretty to eat!”, “We still talk about it!”, and “This is amazing!”. We pour endless amounts of love into what we do and we hope it shows.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
To us, risk is relative to reward and contentment. We’re willing to take the risks that can bring productivity and joy! We are always looking for ways to elevate our business and that simply takes risk. We recognize that growth comes from new products, new tools, and new partnerships. We also decided to find the spaces where we want to be; spaces where we can thrive and really create an experience for our clients that’s always memorable and joyful.

As business owners, we use our goals of success and happiness as our north star to decide our next steps. We are both bakers and artists in our work. So, like all artists, everything we create is an insight into who we are. While there is inherent risk in sharing something so personal, it can also be humbling and wonderful.
