Hi Yashika, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my journey once again. It all began a few years ago when I faced a personal challenge—postpartum hair loss after the birth of my second child. I decided to create a formula to address my hair loss, and it not only worked but exceeded my expectations.

Encouraged by my husband, who saw the remarkable results on my hair and his, I decided to turn my solution into a business. With his support, including financial support to legally structure the business and secure inventory, Hair Affair was born in July 2020. We started with a simple mission: to provide natural, effective hair care solutions that empower people and boost their confidence.

Today, Hair Affair is an award-winning brand known for its commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. We’re continuously evolving, expanding our product line, and investing in further education to stay at the forefront of hair care innovation. Our goal remains to help our customers achieve their hair growth goals and feel confident every day.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been an easy road at all. Like many entrepreneurs, I faced several significant challenges along the way. One of the biggest hurdles was overcoming shipping delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

These delays affected our ability to get products to our customers on time, causing frustration and requiring us to constantly adapt our logistics strategies. These delays caused not only logistical issues but also product shortages and outages, making things even more complicated. On top of that, longer lead times for getting inventory meant my customers had to wait longer for their orders.

Another major struggle was access to funding. Black women face a three times higher rejection rate for funding compared to white business owners, and I experienced this firsthand. The lack of access to external funding meant that I had to finance much of the business out of my own pocket. This created a significant financial strain and fueled my determination to succeed.

Despite these obstacles, I remained committed to my vision and continued to push forward. Each challenge taught me valuable lessons and strengthened my resolve. Today, Hair Affair is a testament to perseverance and the power of believing in your dream, no matter how tough the journey may be.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising that most people might not know about me is that I’m one of over 40 grandchildren.

Growing up, holidays were incredibly lively and important to my family. Another fun fact is that I’m one of seven children, with a 20-year age gap between my eldest sibling and me. This means I became an aunt even before I was born!
