Jasmine O’Bryant of North Houston on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jasmine O’Bryant. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Jasmine, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Yes! I recently completed a 6-week makeup artistry course and earned my certification. It was such a proud moment for me. Being a self-taught artist, it felt amazing to invest in my growth, sharpen my skills, and explore new techniques and trends.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Jasmine O’Bryant, a professional makeup artist and founder of True Self Artistry. I specialize in soft glam and bridal looks that enhance natural beauty and make my clients feel confident. I believe beauty is deeper than the outside, and my goal is always to bring out the confidence that’s already within. I’m currently focused on growing my bridal clientele and continuing to elevate the artistry and experience I offer my clients.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that deeply shaped how I see the world was the recent passing of my dad. Though it’s still very fresh, losing him has shifted my perspective in many ways. Throughout my life, he was a constant source of encouragement and support, always reminding me to be a light in the world and that I have the power to create the life I want. His belief in kindness, strength, and shining your own unique light has become even more meaningful to me. It inspires me every day to pursue my passions with purpose and to uplift others along the way.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be to trust and walk your own unique path. Don’t let others convince you that your strengths are weaknesses. Even if you have to walk alone sometimes, it’s always better to stay true to yourself than to lose your authenticity.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
I think smart people often get it wrong by assuming knowledge alone is enough. They focus on facts and logic but overlook empathy and understanding different circumstances. True wisdom lies in using what we know with kindness and humility. Without that, solutions can fail to truly serve people’s needs.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m not sure if I’m doing what I was born to do, but I do know that creativity has always been a part of me. I take pride in being creative and versatile, and pursuing that feels both natural and fulfilling. I believe I’m still discovering the full extent of my calling, but I’m confident that creativity will always be at the center of it.
