Joe Navarro of Houston on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Joe Navarro. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Joe , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me starts early—I’m usually up before the sun, checking emails and making sure the schedule for the day is tight. Once my crew and I are out in the field, it’s all about installations, maintenance, and service calls. Every job is different—some days we’re swapping out a 50-gallon tank in an attic, other days we’re flushing tankless systems or walking a homeowner through an upgrade.

When I’m not on the tools, I’m wearing my business hat—handling calls, pricing jobs, keeping the vans stocked, and making sure everything runs smoothly. I also carve out time for marketing—recording content, posting updates, and staying engaged with the Houston community, because that’s a big part of how Texans Water Heaters has grown.

At the end of the day, I usually circle back with the team, make sure payroll and paperwork are squared away, and then head home to my family. So, a ‘normal day’ is really a mix of plumbing, business, and family—with a little bit of hustle in all three.”

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Joe Navarro, and I’m the owner and Master Plumber of Texans Water Heaters, a family-owned company here in Houston. For the past ten years, we’ve specialized in one thing—water heaters. That focus is what makes us different. We don’t try to be everything to everybody; we put all our attention into doing one thing better than anyone else.

What makes Texans Water Heaters special is the mix of old-fashioned service and modern expertise. We give honest, upfront pricing, show up in clean uniforms, and treat every home like it’s our own—because in our business, trust matters more than anything.

Our story is really tied to Houston. We’ve grown alongside this community, and we’re proud to serve our neighbors every single day. Right now, we’re expanding our services around tankless technology, maintenance agreements, and even exploring ways to give back through local initiatives.

At the end of the day, we’re not just installing water heaters—we’re making sure families have hot water when they need it most, and we do it with pride, integrity, and a little Texas grit.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
The people who saw me clearly before I could see myself were my mom and my wife. My mom was a single parent who raised five kids the best she could, and she taught me what real hard work and determination look like. She believed in me long before I had it figured out.

And my wife—she’s been the one encouraging me every step of the way, especially when it came time to take the leap and start Texans Water Heaters. She saw the potential in me and in the business, even when I was still second-guessing. Without the two of them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me that it’s all about the journey, not the prize. When you’re struggling, you realize the value is in the lessons you pick up along the way—the patience, the resilience, the problem-solving. Success is great, but it’s just a moment in time. The real growth comes from the grind, the setbacks, and the nights you feel like giving up but don’t.

Those hard times showed me that the prize will come if you stay the course, but the journey is where you actually become the person capable of handling it

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
The short answer is yes — what you see is who I am. Texans Water Heaters is a family business and we wear that on our sleeve. From the photos on our website to the posts we share, it’s all authentic: real crews, real jobs, real homeowners. We don’t manufacture scenes or fake smiles for likes. Our content comes from the jobsite, not a set — the vans, the tools, the coffee-stained blueprints and all.

That honesty carries through to how we price jobs, how we treat customers, and how we run the company. It’s old-fashioned: do the work right, be upfront, and treat people like neighbors. If our posts feel familiar, it’s because they’re true to our day-to-day. No smoke, no mirrors — just hot water and hard work.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Since I was a kid, I always knew one day I’d start a company — it’s just in my DNA. After high school, I went straight to work for different plumbing companies, learning the trade from the ground up. Starting my own business wasn’t forced, it was natural.

Over time, I realized that everyone has their niche — something they’re wired to do better than most. For me, that’s water heaters. That’s why I built Texans Water Heaters around that specialty. Focusing on one thing and doing it with pride is what sets us apart.
