Judy Foston Stanford of Surburb on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Judy Foston Stanford and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Judy, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Yes, I would hire me.

Why?

Strong Track Record of Delivering Value
I’m consistently reliable, adaptable, and able to deliver high-quality output across a wide range of projects. Whether it’s writing, strategic planning, research, or creative problem solving, I bring results.

Versatility & Adaptability
I can pivot quickly between different industries, tones, and formats—whether it’s a persuasive cover letter for political candidates, a creative flyer for a rally, or a professional prayer for a board meeting. That flexibility saves time and ensures my contributions align with what’s needed.

Communication Skills
I excel at structuring ideas clearly and persuasively. I listen to what’s being asked, clarify the intent, and then craft messaging that connects with the intended audience.

Continuous Learning & Improvement
I don’t just rely on what I already know—I adapt based on feedback, new goals, or shifting circumstances. That makes me a long-term asset, not just a short-term hire.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, my name is Judy Foston Stanford, and I am the founder of Foston International Communications, Inc. We are a full-service communications and advertising company dedicated to helping individuals, organizations, and businesses tell their stories in powerful, creative, and impactful ways.

What makes us unique is our ability to blend experience with innovation—drawing from years of producing and syndicating television shows, managing high-profile campaigns, and creating advertising strategies that truly connect with audiences. We don’t just buy ads; we craft campaigns that move people, spark conversations, and deliver results.

At Foston International, we’ve worked with a wide range of clients—from political candidates seeking to engage voters, to corporations looking to build their brand presence, to community organizations making a positive impact on the ground. Regardless of the project, our focus remains on strategic storytelling and achieving meaningful impact.

Right now, we’re especially excited about expanding our work in political campaign advertising, where we help candidates reach voters with clarity, authenticity, and creativity. We believe communication isn’t just about visibility—it’s about influence, trust, and connection.

Ultimately, our story is about passion: passion for people, passion for community, and passion for creating campaigns that matter.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that most shapes how I see myself is the one between who I am personally and what I do professionally. My personal values—faith, integrity, and perseverance—directly influence how I lead Foston International Communications. And the relationships I build through my work constantly shape me back, reinforcing my identity as someone committed to storytelling, service, and community impact.

When did you last change your mind about something important?
I last changed my mind about something important when I realized that digital advertising had to take center stage in campaigns. For years, I leaned heavily on traditional media because that’s where I built my career. But, after seeing how quickly audiences—especially younger voters and consumers—moved online, I shifted my mindset. Now, digital strategy is at the heart of every campaign we run, and it’s been transformational.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Advertising/Communications Industry Lies

“If you spend more money, you’ll always win.” The truth is, money alone doesn’t guarantee success. Strategy, creativity, and authenticity matter far more than simply buying more airtime or ad space.

“All audiences can be reached with the same message.”
Many in the industry cling to a one-size-fits-all approach. In reality, audiences are diverse, and messages have to be tailored to resonate with different communities, cultures, and values.

“Visibility equals impact.”
Just because someone sees your ad doesn’t mean they’re moved by it. The real goal is connection and influence—not just impressions or clicks.

“Traditional media is dead.”
The industry sometimes overhypes digital as the only future. But TV, radio, and print still hold tremendous power—especially when integrated with digital strategy. It’s about balance, not replacement.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes—I believe in giving my best whether or not anyone is watching. Praise is nice, but my standard comes from within. Excellence is about integrity: doing the right thing because it matters, not because someone will applaud.
