Hi Kristina & Marlies, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
(Kristina)We’re two neighbors-turned-friends from Richmond, Texas, who transformed a spontaneous idea into a thriving business rooted in creativity, connection, and community. The whole vision of Simply Unique Permanent Jewelry started in 2022. I have been an entrepreneur at heart since high school and have always embraced my creative spirit through different business endeavors and ideas. I shared the idea of bringing permanent jewelry to our community with Marlies who brings a wealth of experience from her career in advertising and marketing with large communication companies. During a girls’ trip to Canton, we stumbled upon a permanent jewelry booth. Seeing the concept of clasp-free, custom-fitted jewelry welded directly onto the wearer fascinated us. Marlies got her first bracelet that weekend, and what started as curiosity quickly evolved into a full-blown brainstorm over the weekend. By the time we returned home, we had a business name, Simply Unique Permanent Jewelry and a plan. (Marlies) We combined our talents to launch the business! We ordered a welder to practice, some chains and took a training course. We added a bracelet or two on each other and our children, too. We started researching markets and reaching out to established boutiques to set up at, offering custom, clasp-free bracelets, anklets, necklaces, and rings. Each piece is micro-welded for a seamless finish and tailored to the wearer’s style and story. Through word-of-mouth referrals, community connections, and active involvement, Simply Unique has built a distinctive experience in our town. People from nearby towns are drawn to our unique offering, seeking out the personalized touch that Simply Unique provides. Our mission is simple: to create jewelry that’s not just beautiful, but meaningful—a lasting symbol of connection, love, and individuality. What started as a spontaneous idea between two friends is now a thriving business built on heart, craftsmanship, and the belief that the best stories are the ones we wear.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
(Kristina) No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs, we’ve faced our share of challenges. Both Marlies and I continue to work full-time jobs while managing Simply Unique Permanent Jewelry, which presents its own set of difficulties. Time is a precious commodity, and balancing our professional responsibilities, family lives, and our business requires constant juggling.
(Marlies) Time constraints are a significant hurdle. After work hours is when we are able to pour into the business and we try to pick up where the other left off. Despite these challenges, the journey has been incredibly rewarding. The support from our community and the joy we see in our customers make the hard work worthwhile. Each bracelet we create is a testament to our dedication and passion, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to share our craft with others.

Markets are more fun when you get to catch up with other business friends. We are always complimented on the choices of chain we offer. Customers love the designs and variety we bring. What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
(Marlies) We believe permanent jewelry is more than just a trend, it’s an experience in personalization and connection. Over the next 5-10 years, we see the industry continuing to grow, with new welding technology, more customization options, and a wider range of high-quality materials. We’ve already begun evolving with these trends by introducing permanent bangles and custom-fit toe rings during the summer months. As experiential shopping continues to gain popularity, we expect permanent jewelry to become a staple at private events, company gatherings, holiday parties, bridal showers, and more. These group settings make the experience even more meaningful and fun. We are excited to keep evolving with the industry while staying true to what sets Simply Unique apart: stylish, personalized pieces and a memorable experience behind every one.
