Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Beatrice Zarco of River Oaks

Beatrice Zarco shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Beatrice, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
The most common misconception is that this is a superficial industry, solely focused on vanity. I specialize in cosmetic plastic surgery and aesthetics…beauty industry. People see the surface-level changes and often miss the profound human impact underneath.

What I wish people understood is that we are not in the business of altering appearances; we are in the business of restoring confidence. While the outcomes are often visible, the real work is emotional and sometimes medical. It’s the patient who can finally breathe properly after a rhinoplasty, the person who has taken control of their health through weight loss and found a new vitality, or the individual who looks in the mirror and no longer sees a feature that made them feel self-conscious their entire life.

We can’t always fix what’s happening on the inside, but there’s a powerful truth in the fact that when you look better, you often feel better. That newfound confidence radiates into every aspect of a person’s life—their career, their relationships, their overall well-being. We have the privilege of facilitating that transformation, and it is incredibly rewarding. It’s not about chasing perfection; it’s about helping people become the best, healthiest, and most confident versions of themselves.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Beatrice Zarco, but everyone calls me Bebe. For over 25 years, my passion has been dedicated to a single mission: helping individuals feel more confident and beautiful in their own skin.

I currently serve as the Patient Care Coordinator at the renowned Nuveau Plastic Surgery + Medical Aesthetics, where I have the great privilege of working alongside two truly exceptional artists and surgeons, Dr. Edward Lee, FACS, and Dr. Amir Marashi. My role is to be a guiding partner and a trusted resource for our patients, ensuring their journey is comfortable, informed, and exceeds their expectations every step of the way.

What makes Nuveau truly unique, and a central part of my story, is that I also manage our private, top-of-the-line surgical facility. It’s a state-of-the-art center that meets the highest standards of safety and care, so much so that we are trusted by ten other amazing board-certified plastic surgeons who bring their patients here for surgery.

So, while the incredible doctors perform the surgical artistry, the team and I orchestrate the entire experience. From the first phone call to the final follow-up, we are here to ensure that every patient who walks through our doors receives not just world-class results, but world-class care and compassion. We aren’t just changing features; we’re helping to transform lives by boosting confidence from the inside out, and that is the most rewarding work I can imagine.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The people who taught me the most about work, without a doubt, are my parents. They are my ultimate role models and truly molded me into the person and professional I am today.

I witnessed their incredible journey firsthand, leaving everything behind in El Salvador during the civil war in the 1980s to provide me with a safer, better life. They arrived in this country with just $50 to their name, no place to live, and nowhere to go. But what they did have was an unwavering work ethic and profound integrity.

They never cheated the system or took a shortcut that would compromise their values. Instead, they worked tirelessly, day in and day out, blessed by the kindness of people they met along the way who recognized their dedication. I saw every sacrifice they made—it was all for me, and that left a permanent mark on my soul.

They eventually achieved their American dream by starting their own business through pure grit and determination. Watching them build a life from nothing taught me that hard work is about more than just success; it’s about honor, resilience, and doing things the right way. I carry that lesson with me every single day, and I am so profoundly proud of them and the legacy they’ve given me.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely, there have been plenty of times I felt like giving up. My first business venture was one of the most challenging periods of my life. I faced countless disappointments—not just in the market, but in the people around me. It was a profound learning experience that truly tested my spirit and knocked me down in ways I never expected. It definitely messed with my ego.

But looking back, I’m so grateful for that struggle. It was during that time that my resilience kicked in and truly defined me. Those hardships taught me brutal but necessary lessons about business, trust, and myself that I could have never learned in a classroom. Most importantly, that experience humbled me. It forced me to grow, to reassess, and to build from a place of authenticity rather than ambition. Now, I can appreciate every single difficult detail because it shaped the resilient and grounded professional I am today.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
I always strive to be professional, of course, and there are times at work where that means I might be more focused or direct than I would be in a casual setting—some might say I can be a “hard read” in those moments. But that intensity is still a real part of who I am; it comes from a place of deep care and commitment to my work, my colleagues and patients.

When it comes to my core values—integrity, loyalty, and how I conduct business—there is no switch to flip. I am the same person inside and outside of the office. I am the real deal all the way around. I’m fortunate to be surrounded by people from all walks of life, and that has taught me a great deal. But through it all, I’ve always maintained a steady, solid foundation built on those non-negotiable principles. So, whether you meet me in a consultation, gala or at a happy hour, you’re getting the genuine me.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Absolutely. I am undoubtedly doing what I was born to do.

This isn’t a path that was chosen for me; it’s one that aligns perfectly with a deep-seated passion for helping people and a work ethic that was instilled in me from a very young age.

My role now guiding patients, ensuring their comfort, and being a part of their transformative journeys doesn’t just feel like a job. It feels like a calling. It draws on my strengths, my compassion, and my desire to make a genuine difference in people’s lives every single day. So yes, this is born, not told.
