Chef Clinton “CJ”, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
What I think is most understood about CJ’s Masterpiece is that we have such a large kitchen staff that The Exec. Chef (myself) really doesn’t cook anymore. Folks think i run around and just give orders. In fact i’m actually in the trenches with my team; heck even harder. From helping plan the event, ordering and picking up all product; prepping product; executing the event and cleaning packing and putting equipment back after the event. it’s take a village but I am the main one putting in the work
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Celebrity Chef Clinton Jackson-Potts, and I live to create food that not only tastes divine but looks like a masterpiece. My culinary journey began with my Aunt, whose incredible catering for church events and family gatherings sparked an insatiable passion in me for the culinary arts.
This passion was further fueled by the trailblazing Chef Roblé Ali. His modern, high-end catering style, coupled with his Texan roots, inspired me to push my boundaries and refine my skills.
In 2006, I proudly earned my Associate Degree from the Culinary Art Institute of Houston, Texas. Even before graduation, I was immersed in the vibrant restaurant scene, perfecting my culinary techniques and developing innovative recipes.
By 2010, my dream came to life with the launch of CJ’s Masterpiece. The company quickly rose to fame, becoming the premier choice for high-profile events. I am proud to have cooked for a star-studded clientele, including A-list celebrities, influential politicians, and top-tier NFL, NBA & USATF athletes, as well as hosting major social events.
Every dish I create is a testament to my dedication to culinary artistry. Armed with a knife, a cast-iron skillet, and a black plate as my canvas, I transform ingredients into visual and gastronomic masterpieces.
For me, “It’s not just cooking; it’s a work of art; A MASTERPIECE.” I feel blessed to turn my passion into an extraordinary culinary journey, bringing joy and exquisite flavors to every table
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
my Aunt and Uncle; my aunt use to do all the cooking etc for my childhood church and it trickled down to her catering things for other people in the community. we i got of age i was able to help her and learn the tricks of the trade. My uncle was a serial entrepreneur in the community he owned a mini motel / local liquor store / a delivery truck company / and a mini housing community. He use to say if you have a passion dream and or ideal get a plan together and do it.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
you are more talented than you think. don’t depend on everyone else to fight for you. learn how to do it and encourage YOURSELF

My friends would say ny love for them and my family. also LOYALTY i am very big on that

i hope folks say i fought a good fight; and i finished my race, when i get to the gates i want the Lord to say WELL DONE
