Chelsea Nichole Markle shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Chelsea Nichole, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I find that both of energy and integrity are very rare to come across with others in my industry.
Integrity is truly a word I live by having and influencing heavily. I believe in giving grace, kindness, understanding, and support to others I connect with daily because you never know what their life may be like apart from receiving a service from myself.
Energy is so vital to my core essence as a woman, mother, and person seeking to encourage others in the most positive way possible.
I always find myself scanning and observing the energy of others so easily; and use it to create a warm and happy attitude to brighten someone’s day.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Heya y’all!
My name is Chelsea Nichole, but I prefer to go by my nickname Chela.
I’m a full time Tattoo Artist and Body Piercer at Diamondback Tattoo Studio in The Woodlands, Texas.
I create various styles of artwork and tattoo designs in my vision of being “magical” for every client. Bold, vibrant, sparkly, and beautiful tones is what I love to apply in my color work. I also create soft, timeless, and unique black and grey work as well.
As far as piercing, I love curations of the style and art of jewelry on clients. I perform every type of piercing and over a decade in education with piercing.
My current branding I focus on is being a “Tattoo Mom” and “Lady Tattooer” that embellishes the warm, supportive, creative, and kind environment for all clients and their young ones to be present around whether for their first piercing or tattoo. I tattoo and pierce a lot of mothers and daughters, but also a good range of clientele.
I started off very young with art and the fascination with tattoo work. I always went out to local shows growing up and made a lot of friends in the beginning of their journeys in the tattoo industry. I was happy to support Mike Vasquez on his journey and collect my first tattoo. I decided from there I would accomplish my goals as an artist through college and seek an apprenticeship. It took me three long years as a woman to get accepted and work through an apprenticeship to become a tattoo artist.
Since then, I have had friends, teachers, family, and new people support my career and journey.
I lost my daughter’s father when she was a new born and he was a huge support of my artwork. I committed myself harder after his passing and to share my story with others as I have excelled in my work.
I can proudly say after my nine year tattoo anniversary that all my inspiration comes from my daughter, her father, and everyone that has stood by my side through it all. For that, I am truly so grateful and thankful I continue to tattoo till I can not anymore.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My abuelitas (grandmothers) Emma and Monika both taught me what it means to work and have good work ethic skills. They both are single mother’s that came into the United States and worked to keep their families growing. Seeing their hard work, tiredness, and energy to keep going inspires me to work just as hard and put my best into what I do.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would definitely remind younger me that no matter how cruel, selfish, and unkind people or the world can make you feel or believe things about yourself are true, they are not.
You are SOMEONE and that someone is imperfectly perfect the way you are.
All your dreams are not silly or make believe, if you stand up and work hard to achieve them, you can!
You are going to share your bright light with maybe not the whole entire world, but you can try your hardest and make it through anything life throws your way.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
A lot of people see kindness as weakness, but I’m truly convicted that it’s a true strength sometimes people can not understand.
When you have so much courage no matter how much people will turn you away or knock you down, you can still get up and still shine your brightest through dark moments.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that people will remember the kindness, compassion, support, and love I put into all my artwork; but into my clients experiences with me throughout the years.
The joy and laughter in moments we connect over music, hardships, and life itself.
Not only do I do this with clients, but I am the same person with my daughter, family, friends, and strangers. I hope they felt warmth, light, and hope to keep going because I will always be rooting for them.
