Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Delonda Ford

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Delonda Ford. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Delonda, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day include devotion, coffee, 30 minutes of exercise or a long walk, and checking/responding to emails.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Delonda Ford and I am a full-time content creator on YouTube. I am known on social media as Crafting with Delonda and all of my content is curated with beginners in mind.

When I first started my YouTube channel, I was specifically focused on using a Cricut. Now, I have crafting machines of all types, from laser engraver to a 20 needle embroidery machine.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
The person who taught me the most about work was my grandmother. She was a public school teacher for over 35 years and she was very well respected by her colleagues, church members, and the local community. She instilled the importance of getting an education and the value of working hard.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
One fear that I had over the past two years was resigning from my job as an Assistant Principal, to focus on being a full-time content creator. I was afraid of failing. After a lot of prayer, conversations and reassurance from my husband, I released the fear and I decided to fully trust God to lead me and help me to navigate my path. I am extremely grateful to be on this incredible journey.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
I don’t know if its necessarily a cultural value; but I will always say that my voice belongs to me. My voice is not for sale. If I like something, I will say it; and if I don’t like something I will say it. Sometimes, when companies make offers to work with content creators, they think they can buy a favorable review. That may work for some; but it will never work for me. At the end of the day, the product is for the consumer. The consumer trusts me to give an honest review, and that is exactly what they will get.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone, I hope people will say that they were inspired to try something new, that they knew I believed in them, that I genuinely prayed for them, and that every time I was meeting with companies that I was making decisions that would positively impact the members of my crafting community.
