We’re looking forward to introducing you to Felisha Gray. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Felisha, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
So many! I’ve made time to hang out and catch up with a lot of my friends this last month and I remember us just cracking up about dumb things, and us adding on to the joke to keep the bit going. There’s really nothing like surrounding yourself with genuine people who make you laugh. As for feeling proud, I took myself on a solo trip to NYC last month and I booked myself a ticket to see Hamilton on Broadway. This was a bucket list item for me. I was obsessed with the Hamilton soundtrack from 2016-2020. It was such a confusing time in my life, I felt so lost in direction at the time. One of my favorite songs is “Wait For It” and when it came on when I watched the musical, I started crying because I’ve resonated with the song so much. I couldn’t believe I was there to witness such a full circle moment. I never thought I would be able to cross this off my bucket list. I felt proud that I am finally at a time in my life where I have more clarity, direction, and success.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hiii, my name is Felisha! I’ve been a small creator since around 2020. I used to be more of a foodie, going to restaurants for tastings as well as sharing new places in Houston. It was a lot of fun (and a bit exhausting honestly) creating content as a side hustle to help me through nursing school, but I have been less consistent the last couple of years since focusing on my nursing career. This last August, I finally completed my BSN, so a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I am excited to have more free time to create content. Lately I’ve been more interested in travel and lifestyle content, although I do still share the restaurants/coffeeshops/activities I do in Houston on stories. Follow along as I share about my travels! My nursing career has allowed me to the freedom to travel often, and I have a lot of international travel content I want to share with you all.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
I think the relationship that has most shaped how I see myself is…my relationship with myself. I am a firm believer that the number one most important relationship you have is the one you have with yourself. Your relationship with yourself is the only one that is 100% guaranteed to be with you until the end of time. That being said…I’ve learned to invest in myself because that’s never going to be a waste. Unfortunately friendships and relationships come and go. So you’ve got to be comfortable being on your own sometimes. I invest in myself through solo trips, exercise, eating healthy, knowing when to rest my body when it’s tired, and journaling. Trying to be the best version of yourself is not only good for your soul, but it gives off an attractive energy that genuine people are drawn to and inspired by.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Oh my gosh, so many times. I mean, who hasn’t? Struggle is an inevitable part of life. Throughout most of my 20’s, I was so lost on what I should do with my life, wondering how I’m going to get there, and pressured with what my parents expected of me. You’d think I’d have more direction in nursing school , but it was a deeply stressful time of my life. I didn’t have time to create content during those years, and creating content brought me a lot of joy. I was honestly so depressed…I was in therapy, taking antidepressants, and gained a lot of unhealthy weight. I wanted to give up, but my friends in nursing school really helped me through that rut. It took about a year after that to finally feel like things were changing for the better. I got a new job, made new friends, and moved into the city. Now, I’ve never been happier and more comfortable in my own skin.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
I would say the public version of me is pretty close to the real me. Of course I don’t share everything about my life on the internet, even if it seems like I do. But I mostly share about my interests and things that humor me, so that’s pretty authentic to myself. I definitely think that what I post is indicative of my personality.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I love this question, because I’ve definitely struggled with praise when it came to social media. I think every creator can relate when I say it’s hard to put in a lot of work on a post or a video and not receive the likes or views that you have anticipated, especially when it’s a collaboration. I’ve been there before. Over the last few years I’ve learned to have fun and create content for the art of it, to create something I love and am proud of. Basically, it’s not that serious. Just try again and do it for yourself.
