Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Francisco Lujan of Houston-Katy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Francisco Lujan. Check out our conversation below.

Francisco, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I begin my day by checking my email and messages, prioritizing customer requests, and responding thoughtfully. This helps me stay organized and ensures that my clients always feel heard and valued.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Francisco, and I’m a graphic designer and print professional based in Houston. I’ve been in this field for over 25 years, helping small businesses bring their ideas to life through thoughtful design and high-quality printed materials. I love working directly with entrepreneurs and anyone who wants their brand to look polished and professional.

What makes my work unique is the personal approach. I don’t just “make designs” — I take time to understand each client’s business, their audience, and the message they want to communicate. My goal is always to create designs that sell — visuals that make customers stop, pay attention, and take action.

I run my studio without high overhead, which allows me to offer fair prices, fast turnaround, and a level of attention that larger companies often can’t match. I’m also integrating tools like QR code branding to help businesses connect all their social media and online presence in one simple, modern way.

At the end of the day, I do this because I believe every business — big or small — deserves to look professional and feel proud of how they present themselves.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I spent many years working in large advertising agencies, and I learned a lot from that environment — structure, standards, and how to create work that gets results. But I realized that high-quality design shouldn’t only be available to big companies with big budgets. So the part I’m letting go of is the idea that great design has to be expensive or complicated. Now I focus on helping small business owners get the same level of service and attention, but in a more personal and affordable way.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes. During the pandemic I had to close my brick-and-mortar studio, and it felt like everything I had built was disappearing. But something unexpected happened: my customers kept reaching out. They were loyal, and they told me they couldn’t find another service like mine. That support kept me going. I rebuilt the business from home, streamlined my process, and focused even more on personal service. Today, the business has more than tripled. What felt like an ending actually turned into a new beginning.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
I think money follows passion. If you truly care about the work and your customers, the business side takes care of itself. Not everyone agrees, but it’s worked for me.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
Yes. During the pandemic, I suddenly had all the free time I used to wish for. But I realized very quickly that it didn’t feel good. I missed designing, creating, and helping entrepreneurs bring their ideas to life. That experience reminded me that my work isn’t just a job — it gives me purpose and energy.
