Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Jasmine Nelson M.S., CCC-SLP & Tiffany James M.S., CCC-SLP of The Galleria Area

Jasmine Nelson M.S., CCC-SLP & Tiffany James M.S., CCC-SLP shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Jasmine & Tiffany, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Right now, we are being called to expand. For years, we have poured our hearts into school-based speech therapy through Let’s Talk About It Speech Therapy, PLLC, and now we have taken a leap of faith by opening our own clinic, Pediatric World of Therapy, PLLC.

This step felt intimidating at first because it meant stepping into a new level of responsibility, taking on a physical space, and growing beyond what felt familiar. Over time, we realized that growth requires courage. We felt called to create a place where families could not only receive therapy services but also feel seen, supported, and empowered.

Our vision is to become pillars in the community, a trusted space where parents feel confident bringing their children, where therapists can collaborate and grow, and where our passion for helping kids reach their full potential can continue to make a difference.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We are Jasmine Nelson and Tiffany James, Speech-Language Pathologists and co-owners of Let’s Talk About It Speech Therapy, PLLC and Pediatric World of Therapy, PLLC.

Our paths into the field were different but connected by the same passion for helping children find their voice. Jasmine began her journey in 2011 as a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant, while Tiffany started her career as a teacher before transitioning into speech therapy. We met in graduate school in 2017, where our shared vision and commitment to serving children and families inspired us to create Let’s Talk About It Speech Therapy, PLLC.

What began as two clinicians with a dream has grown into a thriving company that partners with school districts across Texas, providing quality speech and language services. Recently, we expanded that vision by opening Pediatric World of Therapy, PLLC, a clinic where families can receive personalized, in-clinic support in a warm and welcoming environment.

What makes our brand unique is that we are therapist-owned, clinician-led, and community-focused. We understand the needs of both families and therapists because we have experienced both sides. Our mission is to empower children, support families, and create opportunities for therapists to thrive while doing the work they love.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
We believe what breaks bonds between people is a lack of understanding, communication, and empathy. When people stop listening to each other or start assuming the worst instead of seeking to understand, connection begins to fade. In our field, we see every day how communication is at the heart of relationships, whether it’s between a parent and child, a teacher and student, or even between colleagues.

What restores those bonds is compassion, open dialogue, and a willingness to meet people where they are. We’ve learned that healing and connection happen when people feel heard, respected, and supported. Whether it’s a family walking into our clinic or a therapist joining our team, our goal is always to create a safe space where trust can grow and people can reconnect through understanding and care.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
For both of us, the biggest fear has been stepping fully into the role of business owners and realizing that other people are relying on us. It’s one thing to dream about building something meaningful, but it’s another to know that your decisions affect your team, their families, and the people you serve.

In the beginning, that responsibility felt heavy. We worried about whether we were ready, whether we could handle growth, and whether we would make the right choices for everyone involved. But over time, we’ve learned that leadership isn’t about having all the answers, it’s about showing up with integrity, learning as you go, and trusting the vision that got you started.

That fear pushed us to grow, and it’s become one of the reasons we lead with so much care and intention today.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies in the speech therapy industry is that you have to choose between helping people and building a sustainable business. Many clinicians enter this field with a heart to serve but are made to feel guilty for wanting balance, fair pay, or growth beyond direct therapy. The truth is that you can provide exceptional care and still create a healthy, thriving practice.

Another misconception is that therapy has to look one specific way to be effective. Every child, family, and therapist is different, and meaningful progress often happens when we step outside the “one-size-fits-all” mindset and tailor our approach to meet people where they are.

We also see a tendency for the field to undervalue the role of collaboration. Speech therapy doesn’t exist in a vacuum, it works best when therapists, parents, teachers, and administrators all work together. Breaking those silos and focusing on connection is what truly changes outcomes.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
Jasmine:
I hope people remember me as someone who truly cared about others, about purpose, and about making a difference. I want to be known as someone who used her voice to help others find theirs, whether it was a child learning to communicate for the first time or a therapist discovering confidence in their career. More than anything, I hope people see that every decision I made came from the heart and a genuine desire to serve.

Tiffany:
I hope people remember me as someone who poured into others and led with kindness, compassion, and faith. I want to be known for lifting people up, helping them see their potential, and creating spaces where both children and professionals could grow. My goal has always been to lead with love and leave a legacy of empowerment.

Together:
We hope the story people tell about us is that we built something that mattered. Not just a business, but a community where people felt seen, supported, and inspired to grow. If our work continues to impact lives long after we are gone, then we have done what we were meant to do.
