We’re looking forward to introducing you to Joanne Tang. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Joanne, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
While intelligence and energy are powerful traits, integrity is the foundation. Without it, intelligence and energy can be dangerous or misused—think of a brilliant, driven person who’s dishonest or unethical. So if I had to pick just one: integrity.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Nails by Yen is a full-service beauty salon committed to consistently delivering exceptional customer satisfaction through outstanding service, high-quality products, and a welcoming, relaxing atmosphere. We take pride in maintaining a friendly, fair, and creative work environment—one that values diversity, fresh ideas, and hard work.
I’m proud to say our salon has been well-established for over 20 years, and many of our loyal clients have been with us from the very beginning. Their continued support and referrals mean the world to us. After all, word of mouth is the best form of advertising, and we’re truly grateful to everyone who has helped our business grow and thrive.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Bonds between people are often broken by a loss of trust, poor communication, neglect, pride, and unresolved hurt. Dishonesty, lack of effort, and the refusal to listen or understand can slowly erode even the strongest relationships. Restoring those bonds takes honesty, accountability, and consistent effort. Open communication, sincere apologies, and a willingness to forgive can begin the healing process. With time, empathy, and mutual respect, trust can be rebuilt.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
“You don’t have to have it all figured out—just keep going, stay kind, and trust that you’re growing into exactly who you’re meant to be.”
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
Fads in the salon industry are quick trends that come and go, like certain nail designs or temporary product crazes, often driven by social media buzz. Foundational shifts, however, are lasting changes that improve how salons operate and serve clients, such as the growing focus on health-conscious products or personalized customer experiences. These shifts address real needs and stand the test of time, making them more than just passing trends.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If immortality were real, what would you build?
If immortality were real, I’d build a space where knowledge, creativity, and connection could grow endlessly—like a vast, ever-evolving library and community hub that brings people together across time and cultures to share ideas, art, and stories. A place where learning never stops and innovation thrives forever.
