Kendramia shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Kendramia, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Lately, I’ve been feeling called to step into the spotlight and be more visible, rather than staying at home. As a part of this, I’m pushing myself to take my own photos and create a short film that shares my story—something well outside my usual comfort zone.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kendramia, and I am an artist passionate about exploring how education, art, and technology intersect and influence one another. I founded an art initiative called Healing Adam, which brings awareness to men’s health through art. What makes this project unique is my use of digital face painting and photography to share men’s stories—giving them a safe and expressive space to be seen and heard,
My mission is to help restore men to God’s original design.
In addition, I am currently developing a short film series that continues this mission by providing men with a platform to tell their stories and inspire young males to view the world—and themselves—through a more positive and supportive lens.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was fearless and not afraid to take risks. I left home around 17 years old for college in another state, and it was one of the greatest decisions I ever made. I was extremely sure of myself without even thinking about it. I was very much self-motivated, and once I had a goal in mind, there was nothing that could stop me from attaining it. As a teenager, I was not aware of life’s obstacles and potential pitfalls. It did not occur to me that someday things would come along to distract me and knock me off my path. I really had tunnel vision and would run through a brick wall and not know I did.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stopped hiding my pain and using it as power when I created Healing Adam. Working on Healing Adam is an answered prayer and a way to finally grieve and find peace in why some relationships I had did not work out. Instead of continuing to ask why, I decided to change my perspective and see that men have silent struggles that are not talked about, and because of it, relationships are destroyed due to a lack of understanding. This is not a space to condone behavior but to accept accountability. My goal is to give men a space to have a voice and explain their side of the story.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I grew up admiring my grandmother, Jewel Prestage. When I was young, I wanted to be the Dean of a college just like her, and I had no clue what that was lol! It just sounded really cool. My grandmother is a world-renowned woman and is cherished by so many people. I loved how she interacted with everyone and always remembered everything she learned about them. She was always kind and considerate of others, and she never flaunted her power and influence.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What light inside you have you been dimming?
I have been dimming my light of confidence for the sake of others’ feelings. Although I am focused on Healing Adam, I am also focusing on myself and doing everything for me first. I’ve realized I’m going to have to deal with life and what comes with it either way. I might as well shine bright while doing it.
