Mr. Clemon Malbreau III shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Clemon , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
If I had to choose what matters most to me at this stage in my life, it would be all of the above—intelligence, energy, and integrity. These three qualities aren’t just traits; they are the foundation of who I am and what sets me apart in both my personal and professional life.
Let’s start with intelligence. I consider myself someone with a strong capacity for learning, reasoning, and understanding. In the profession I love—one that requires constant adaptability and problem-solving—intelligence isn’t optional, it’s essential. I’ve worked hard to gain the education I need, and I pride myself on being able to navigate challenges with clarity and thoughtful communication.
Energy is sacred to me. I’ve grown to deeply protect my space and my spirit. At this point in life, I’ve endured my share of pain, failure, and setbacks—and I’ve come to recognize that most of those stemmed from negative energy. That was a powerful lesson. Today, I choose to be highly aware and intentional with the energy I give and receive. I show up with positivity, and I guard my peace.
And then there’s integrity—a core value I was raised on. It’s more than just doing the right thing; it’s about living with principle. My parents taught me the importance of morals, and I strive every day to carry those lessons forward. Whether in business, in education, or in personal relationships, I lead with honesty, fairness, and self-respect. Integrity is not something I turn on or off—it’s embedded in everything I do.
Together, intelligence, energy, and integrity form the backbone of my character. They’re what keep me grounded, what elevate me, and what allow me to stand confidently on a foundation I’ve built with purpose.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Today is a momentous day for me — a powerful step in my journey and the evolution of my brand.
I am Clemon Carroll Malbreau III, known to many as “Mr. Clem” (Hair by Clem) a globally recognized artist and educator with 32 years of experience in the beauty industry. And when I say industry, I mean every facet: from education, artistry, cutting, coloring, to mastering textured hair. I’ve served, taught, and inspired across all levels.
Throughout my career, I’ve stood on many platforms — driven by a passion to educate, elevate, and transform. And now, I’m proud to share my newest accomplishment: becoming a licensed Texas Class A Barber, which I now teach and practice alongside cosmetology.
This dual licensure marks a new chapter. I am rebranding with purpose — expanding my reach, voice, and impact to a global audience. The mission remains the same: to share knowledge, empower others, and push boundaries in the beauty world and beyond.
As scripture says, “Eyes haven’t seen, and ears haven’t heard…” what’s to come. Stay tuned. The journey is only getting bigger.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I was very shy and timid—YESS, CLEM!
I struggled deeply with a speech impediment and stuttered severely. On top of that, I lacked confidence. I would watch everyone around me enjoy themselves while I sat back quietly, unsure of where I fit in.
If it weren’t for my siblings and cousins encouraging me to get up, play, and be part of things, I might have stayed in that shell. They helped pull me into the light.
Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined being where I am today—teaching, performing, being invited to national stages, motivational speaking, and even having the honor to speak at graduations. One of the greatest blessings of all has been becoming a mentor to many.
I thank God daily for delivering me from the doubts and insecurities of childhood. Through prayer, persistence, and purpose, I made it.
And I’m just getting started.
Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
All blessings I speak of come straight from God.
There came a time when I realized I was speaking to the wrong people—because I never saw true change in myself or felt peace in my spirit. Early in my career, I knew I wanted more than just being behind the chair or being known as “just a stylist.” I remember clearly the moment I dropped to my knees and asked God for guidance—to help me grow, to use me to reach others.
Yes, I spoke to Him like never before. I fasted, I prayed, and I cried out, “God, just let me know when! Come on, God, do you hear me?”
Then one morning, as I was getting ready for the salon, something powerful happened. I heard a sound come from my computer. I thought, That’s strange—my computer is off. (You know, back in the desktop days…lol.) I went to check, and the screen was lit up on the start menu.
At that moment, I broke down in tears and praised Him. That was all the confirmation I needed—God was the one I needed to hear from, not man. I learned to keep my lips touching each other and Move in Silence.
I will always cherish that moment. From that day forward, I chose to lean on Him and trust His word. God is forever faithful, full of understanding, and He is the BEST listener I know.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Just a, Positive Belief & Project Aligned with God’s Work in My Life
A core belief I hold is that God’s hand is consistently working in my life—guiding, shaping, and using me as a vessel to uplift others. One project I am fully committed to is the ongoing journey of mentorship and being a dedicated educator. Behind the chair as a Stylist/Barber it a ministry, I don’t just teach skills—I pour into others with intention, love, and the same grace that has been poured into me.
Remaining humble is not just a trait; it’s a project I work on daily. It’s the foundation I was raised on, and it’s how I continue to serve. True humility allows me to meet people where they are, to listen, to lead with compassion, and to celebrate others’ growth without ego. That, to me, is God’s work in action—living a life that reflects His light by building others up.
This commitment to mentorship, education, and humility is not seasonal—it’s for life. These values will always define who I am and what I stand.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Giving the best that I’ve got is all I have to give. When you do your best there is no more you can give.
Even when there’s no recognition or pat on the back, my integrity and humility are more than enough. After many speaking engagements and shows, I often sit quietly in a corner—reflecting, thanking God for the opportunity, and acknowledging what just took place.
That reflection doesn’t need to be seen by anyone—it lives within me. The true reward is not in the applause, but in the peace that comes from knowing I gave my all with sincerity and purpose.
I give all praises to God. He continues to give me strength each day to keep going. When something is done from the heart, with genuine love for what you do, it shines through you. No outside recognition is needed—because when it’s real, it radiates on its own.
