Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Sierra Alston

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sierra Alston. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Sierra, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
What brings me the most joy is being a single mom to my son. I love raising him and building a legacy for our future. He shares my passion for construction, he knows every piece of equipment by name, and I’m proud to be guiding him toward one day taking over and continuing what I’ve started.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Sierra Alston, CEO of Arreis Construction Group LLC, a Houston based civil construction firm redefining what leadership in this industry looks like. I started Arreis to prove that excellence, integrity, and opportunity can coexist, especially for women and minorities in construction. We’re not just building projects, we’re building a legacy of quality, trust, and representation that will stand the test of time.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mentor. She saw potential in me long before I ever recognized it myself. She looked past my doubts and circumstances and saw the woman I was becoming, capable, disciplined, and destined for more. Her belief in me gave me permission to start believing in myself.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
My business wasn’t handed down to me I didn’t grow up in this industry. Everything I’ve built came from trial, error, and persistence. I’ve made a lot of money and lost a lot along the way, but every setback sharpened my focus, strengthened my character, and reminded me that growth comes from grit, not comfort.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies my industry tells itself is that women can’t do what men can do and that we’re not as capable, technical, or hardworking. The truth is, women in construction and real estate are proving every day that we bring a level of precision, organization, and resilience that elevates the entire field.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m able to employ providers of households, make a real difference, and contribute to incredible infrastructure projects that strengthen and serve the community.
