Torrie “El CapeTeaux” Ferguson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Torrie “El CapeTeaux”, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
First hearing my voice then seeing my face in the new movie “The Girl That Got Glue Stuck In Her Hair” directed by Alvin Gray about the lady who put Gorilla Glue in her hair and her Tik Tok clip went viral. It meant alot to me to be featured in the film because I live in Texas, currently Houston and the movie was shot in Baltimore if I’m not mistaken. I am friends with Alvin on Instagram and during the filming he posted he needed bloggers to make a video like when Tessica is scrolling on social media she will see our videos. So I got up out of bed something came to me to say and I propped my tripod up prepared myself stood against the wall in my room and filmed my clip. I was nervous but Alvin said he loved it and he texted me a few weeks after to confirm I had made it in the movie. Once the one night Youtube premiere came there I was my voice then my clip as Tessica is scrolling for a solution to get the glue out of her hair this was really a proud moment being this was my first out of state movie. The film is currently released on Apple TV.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey hey I am El CapeTeaux Torrie “El CapeTeaux” Ferguson (El Cap e Toe) I am from Dallas, Texas but currently relocated to Houston, Texas. I am an award winning recording artist, actor, model and author I also hold a lot more other titles from producer to director. My debut album “Full Attention” earned me a music streaming award for being streamed on Spotify over 50,000 times. My 2nd single “SCARXD.” from my first EP “The Lockdown” in 2020 was recognized by Big Daddy Kane and placed on his 2021 compilation mixtape “The Light Up”. On Tubi my most notable movie is “Mojo Savage” directed by Kaegan Blaq. Also I own an independent record label company called Drip Soundz Records and a production company called Talkboy Worldwide Entertainment. I am 38 years old a Capricorn born January 2 and a doggy dad to a border terrier named Prince Tyran. Currently I’m working on my 7th album “Mr. Full Attention” and finding new ways to get my artistry to bigger platforms. What makes all this special is because a lot of this was created out of grief, channeling my pain into creativity my music tells a lot of my stories that’s where my passion is.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
Tyran J, he’s no longer with us in flesh but in spirit he will forever live on. Losing him back in December of 2022 is when I lost and had to refind myself. We were together for 4 years he really showed what love could really look like for me, with my music he was my muse. Tyran taught me how to enjoy life how to love others more, he showed me I had to get out my shell and see the world. He invested in me and helped guide me through everything I was trying to take on during our partnership. After his passing I learned my strength and also my vulnerability towards situations that arises, also how to identify the resilience in myself. Still feels very surreal that he’s not here anymore but I will keep going just like he told me the last night I heard his voice.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there have been several times in my life in general not only in my career. I’m a survivor of domestic violence in my late 20s I found myself in a situation that caused my attempt at wanting to end it all but.. I’m so glad God had favor over me because look at me now the other side was way more worth it. After recording “Full Attention” I wanted to quit but the spark was lighting up even brighter and when it’s meant you just gotta obey the calling it’s the gift that was given to me by God my voice.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
In recent times, I’ve admired Antrone Harris not for his power, but for his character. I first saw him in a Tubi movie back in the summer of 2024, “The Break of Dawn”, and months later we ended up filming a Christmas movie together in Houston. His body of work is impressive, from Lifetime’s legal comedy drama “Drop Dead Diva” to “Twisted Justice” and “Trust Me Trust Me Not” on Tubi, but what I respect most is his humility and passion for what he does. He teaches an acting class called Antrone Harris Acting Class which I have an interest in attending soon. Despite all he’s accomplished, Antrone remains grounded and genuinely supportive of others. When I was ready to give up on acting, he reached out and encouraged me to keep going by bringing me onto “Ebony’s XMas Carol”. That opportunity gave me purpose during a tough time and meeting new and amazing people who were cast and crew. He’s also president of the Black Indie Filmmakers Association, shining a spotlight on Houston’s indie talent in film. Antrone’s drive, generosity and authenticity are what makes me admire him the most.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think the biggest misunderstanding about my legacy will be the idea that I led my career with my sexuality. As proud as I am of it, I’m first and foremost a human being who wants my talents to shine and to see the kind of success that those before me achieved. Growing up, my first inspiration in music was Michael Jackson he opened my eyes to what artistry could be. When I started recording, the music industry had already shifted and I had to navigate a new digital world and find my own path as an artist. My sound is what I call emotional soul it’s not R&B, it’s not rap, but it’s real. Every lyric I write comes from an honest place, true to who I am and the life I’ve lived.
