Today we’d like to introduce you to Cherry Davis.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Cherry. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been modeling since five but really became serious at 12 years old. I traveled and experienced a lot within the industry. I stood out as a leader, a model always willing to help and assist newer models just getting started. I would help coordinate or Coach runway without even thinking about it at rehearsals and before shows.
After 17 years of assisting bts, I decided I wanted to really help by hosting a runway/workout core class. So, I did and I named it Core of the Runway and it was successful. At the end of the class, every model told me I should be doing the classes all the time. After lots and lots of thought, I decided to give back fully by creating a MODEL DEVELOPMENT SCHOOL.
Core of the Runway would not be just any old school though. I wanted to offer more to each model I encountered. By not only offering classes but jobs to apply the things they learn in those classes. A seminar that gives the entire rundown of the industry.
Recently, I took 35 male and female models to NYFW, where I assisted, guided, and booked them in numerous shows to walk and elevate their modeling careers.
I pride myself on being a woman of my word. Being loyal, honest, organized, stricter but fun, and a simplicity teacher.
These traits have brought me this far and brought me much success. Thankful because I have many titles yet I still feel honored to be apart of each models journey. So many want me to manage them and I truly appreciate that because it obviously means I’m doing things the right way. I feel so extremely blessed cause I haven’t even hit two years.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My journey as a model has had a lot of ups and downs. I struggled with people telling me I was too athletic, too dark, my birthmark was too big, and my skin wasn’t perfect enough to model. I never took no for an answer – even now hearing you are too old, you’ll never make it, you have too many tattoos, this is not your market, stick to acting, and you’re still too big. I fought for what my heart and mind told me. I CAN DO THIS! I LOVE THIS! GOD BROUGHT ME THIS FAR FOR A REASON!
My advice to models of all ages, races, sizes, and genders… believe in yourself!!!
Put in the work if you really want it. Invest in the right things and do your research. Don’t except everything or work with everyone. Remember, there is a process and you can’t skip steps. Enjoy the process even if it is slower then you prefer because it is all worth it and you will learn a lot.
I don’t compete with others because I truly believe that what is for me is for me. What is for you is for you and NO one can take that away. Polished, responsible, respectful, loyal, and professional!!!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Core of the Runway – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
What sets me apart from others is I am a person, who really cares about others. I honestly want to help in any way I can. I take pride in my job and I have the experience and knowledge to back it up.
I am most proud of the fact that I’m a model development school, so I don’t have to do half of the things I do for models. Yet, I do it cause I want to see them reach their goals.
