Today we’d like to introduce you to Dianna Guillen.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
From an early age, I was drawn to the beauty and expressionism of Art. It became my dream to become an Artist. I started out drawing my favorite cartoon characters, and in my teen years, I painted my first set of murals at my middle school. Art was a way of expressing myself and allowing others to see my vision. As I got older, I felt in my heart that I was capable of doing more. I was determined to grow in this God-given talent that brought joy into my life. Over the last four years, I devoted my time to exploring all types of art and mediums. I found peace and stillness in painting and calligraphy, this ignited my ambition and creativity that I was longing for. I started out painting custom shoes then transitioned to canvases, and gave spray cans a try which influenced my love for graffiti art. Every new project and idea is an opportunity to grow and expand on my craft, and I hope to continue to learn and create for all of time.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not been smooth. There was a couple of challenges I had to face in order to find myself and my purpose as an Artist. I had an expectation that I would build my platform and sell paintings overnight until I realized it was going to take some time to achieve those goals. During my slow seasons, I would get discouraged wondering if I would sell any of my pieces, and I would often get painters block, but I was able to overcome that by focusing on what I loved to do and passion. I needed to get out of my comfort zone, so I challenged myself to develop and create in my strengths and weaknesses. Surprisingly, I created some of my best work in my weaknesses.
My advice to young ladies who are ready to take a leap of faith would be to have fun as your pursuing your dream and passion. In your journey, plan and set short and long-term goals for yourself. Be persistent and confident as you build your platform and be willing to get out of your comfort zone. So, do not be afraid of trying something new or make mistakes, it is part of the process! Lastly, if you hit a dry season, never compare or criticize yourself to someone else’s achievements. Instead, commemorate in their success! I believe that is where true inspiration begins.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with 27ston – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Art is diverse and has many forms. When someone asks me what type of art I create, I really don’t know where to start. Pretty much any surface that I can paint, I will create something out of it. As a painter and calligrapher, I incorporate a lot of styles such as urban street art, prophetic, and calligraffiti on shoes, murals, and paintings. I take great pride in that because it allows me to explore what seems impossible, come to life. Most of my artwork is inspired by my spirituality and my Houston roots. My biggest goal is to inspire and encourage the world through my creativity and faith visually. I have met amazing artists and built relationships that have encouraged me to fulfill my dream and hope to do the same with others. I enjoy participating in local art initiatives that support my community and also charitable causes. I hope that my artwork will bring unity and peace into this world and inspire future generations.
Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
In today’s society, I believe some women often fall into doing the same trend based on what is popular on social media. Focusing on the number of likes and what people think hinders our ability to find our confidence, identity, and purpose in life. I encourage women to love yourself and fulfill your calling and destiny, so that you may set an example for the younger generation.
