Life and Work with Karess Grant

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karess Grant.

Karess, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Here’s a little bit of my story…

I was born and raised in Huntsville, Texas which is a super tiny country town where everyone knows everyone! We would hang out at our local Wal-Mart just for fun. Haha! I started out dancing in my local church then, with a local competitive dance team and I danced throughout high school. I was diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of 12 but I refused to stop dancing. I have always believed in the power of movement and I have always loved dancing. Fast forward to my college years, I graduated from Stephen F. Austin University and I majored in Dance, Education, and minored in Spanish. I eventually signed with an agency in Los Angeles and Atlanta where I traveled as a contemporary, jazz, and hip-hop dancer and choreographer for about five years. I then began a career as a Dance Director in Houston, Texas. I directed Dance Companies and Dance Teams for eight years before I ended my Dance Director career at the age of 29.

While I was directing dance, I also worked as a Life-Coach for about two years. This is something that I knew I loved and wanted to pursue in my future. So now, I lead multiple ministries and have the opportunity to pour into different women from all walks of life. Now, as a published Author and content/curriculum creator, I get a chance to focus full-time on creating resources that serve as tools and strategies for young adults and women that I come across.

I have always been a believer in Christ for as long as I can remember. However, it wasn’t until I turned 21 that I actually formed a RELATIONSHIP with Jesus. I began to learn more about His character and I learned more about grace. This heightened my belief in Lord and Savior Jesus and it also ignited a fire in me to share the gospel and goodness of Jesus to everyday women just like those of you reading this.

Has it been a smooth road?
I wish I could say this has been the most smooth and beautiful journey, but honestly, it has been far from smooth. I mean, I have been a dancer for many years and now, I’m not. Any huge transition like that is a hard pill to swallow and uncomfortable because I had to be willing to let my idea of what I thought my life would look like, die. However, I knew that in order for me to successfully thrive in the lane that was created for me, I needed to make the decision to be open to my life not looking like anyone else’s, including the picture I had of my life in my own head. The biggest piece of advice I would give any young woman is to be ok with everyone else around you not understanding your purpose and your vision in the beginning. It wasn’t given to them, it was given to you! Every single day you should be sure to make a conscious effort to not compare yourself to anyone else and what they are doing. Be confident in what you’re supposed to do in your own lane. Do not look left or right, stay focused on what it is you are supposed to be accomplishing and how you can impact the lives you come in contact with.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I am a Published Author of a book titled, “Time to Fight, Sis” as well as a Christian Content & Curriculum Creator. My book, “Time to Fight, Sis” is full of tools and strategies to help women walk through the common seasons of life with practical ways to apply them biblically. I have coined it as “The best friend’s guide to a life of authenticity and wholeness” I want to make other women know, they are NOT alone.

If it ever seems like you’re being overwhelmed by your emotions and you don’t know how to work through them, or you feel like you’re just reading books, Instagram posts, and other motivational stuff, but you still have NO clue how to APPLY the things you’re reading… Time to Fight, Sis is the perfect book for you! This is exactly what sets me apart from other authors and books that are already available.

Rooted in faith and jam-packed with tools and strategies to immediately apply as you read, this book is the best friend’s guide to a life of authenticity and wholeness!

– We walk through obstacles such as anxiety, depression, fear, lies, procrastination and many more.

– We plow through tough emotions and realities that require you to be diligent, intentional, and honest with yourself.

– We learn new tools and strategies with BIBLICAL references and personal experiences.

– We tackle your emotions and BREAK-UP with lies!

Overall, if you need something that helps you become intentional about walking fully in who God has created you to be without your emotions taking control, Time to Fight, Sis is for you!

Who have you been inspired by?
There are many women in the Bible who have inspired my life overall. However, I want to talk about the ministry of Sarah Jakes Roberts. She is such a huge inspiration to me and the material I put out because despite all odds she has managed to be a walking testament of ALL things working out for our good. I have a past of being sexually abused for seven consecutive years and just seeing Sarah be so determined to overcome her obstacles in the past and have them inform her entire ministry is inspiring to me.
