Life and Work with Laura Lim

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Lim.

Laura, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I first started in my business when a former coworker of mine approached me about a sale she was having with her business team on Facebook. I had already entertained the idea of starting or collaborating in a business that could give me the freedom to make my own hours, have the time to be there for my children for school carpool and allow me to enjoy the best things in life. I attended the sale virtually and was very impressed with the integrity of the company, products and the integrity of my coworkers’ teammates and mentors. It wasn’t until her team’s top leader spoke live on Facebook that I was compelled to just stop thinking, doubting, being afraid and just to do it. I immediately called up my coworker and asked her how I could get started in this business, even though I was scared, hesitant, doubtful and had no clue how to run any type of business.

Even though I was going into business for myself, I never felt like I was running my business by myself. My team’s leaders and mentors have been with me every step of the way. We have a great community and I owe a lot of my success to the encouragement, guidance, and positivity of my team and company’s culture. I am fortunate to have people in my life, especially my family that has supported me. It hasn’t been an easy road by no means. There were a few times that I even wanted to quit, but nothing worth having and gaining is ever easy.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is anything worth having and loving ever a smooth road? No way. I encountered many struggles along the way, including losing some friends who didn’t feel the need to support me in any way, some family members who thought I was sharing my business only for my own gain and those closest to me just plain stop talking to me. It hurt, was difficult and caused a lot of heartaches. I’m not anywhere I am nowhere near my goal financially just yet but I know that this business is not a get rich quick scheme. I know it involves a lot of sacrifices, hard work, patience, perseverance, and possibly opposition of those closest to me. I know that my business is not for everyone, but I know that I can serve someone. My advice is to not ever give up. Keep at it. Make a commitment and the time to go after what you want in life. No one will ever give it to you. You must take it. No matter how long the journey is, if you believe in it and love it, you must not give up on it. Find those around you that support you and forget those that don’t support you. They are not meant to join you on your journey.

Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
Yes, I do. Women are so well positioned to have major influence over the future generation. Many of us are moms, teachers, influencers, and mentors. Being in those positions gives us so much opportunity to make a difference if we choose to do so.
