Life and Work with Mrs. AngelaRaye Penright

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mrs. AngelaRaye Penright.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why do not you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a wife, a mother, and a grandmother (ladybug) amongst many other titles I am known for having. I am a native Houstonian from 5th Ward Kelly Courts. I have always tried to see the good in every situation even when it hurts or others and myself do not want to acknowledge it. There is always a better way to see the negative. Growing up I have always felt as if I was in this world all alone. I was blessed to have two brothers and one sister who I knew had my back and she was there to always protect me. My sister was the one who told me about becoming a woman because our mothers were working and we were a single parent home for a little while (until our non- biological DAD married our mom) and we became a two parent household but that is another story. Now we are older, and things are different because without warning, it stopped. I have always thought that family came first you know charity starts at home and spread abroad it was the opposite. For a long time, I did not understand what was happening, but I knew that this was not something I wanted but it was what was happening. Now, I am all grown-up she is no longer protecting me she is mentally abusing me. What I received from this is that people tend to see you for who they believe you are and not for who you are. Thirty-four years ago, I gave birth to a beautiful little girl and for the first ten years of her life, she was the only child until we were blessed with her little brother. Because she was the only child, I thank God for cousins and friends. This young lady always wanted to have sleepovers and we did. Because of these sleepovers I learned a few things about them and myself. During these sleepovers they had food, conversations, and fun and every now and then I would be invited to be part of some Q&A which allowed me to see that we could be loving and supportive towards one another. I watched these young ladies grow up to be some amazing wives and mothers. The love that they have for one another is not with attitudes, disagreements or struggle but the bond they have is like no other. Their relationship taught me so much about togetherness and how we as women should seek pulling each other up instead of tearing each other down. I have always wanted to go into business for myself but I did know what I wanted to do so while taking my daughter to school one morning I noticed a college next door as if the school just popped up because I had never paid attention to it to even notice it was there. I walked in to ask questions and for information and hours later, I was enrolled with all my paperwork done including my FAFSA and with classes in tow. I was ready to begin this new journey of educational learning about business… I have received my Bachelor of Science degree in Business. After completing, I have started a few businesses and have done some Multi-level Marketing (MLM) however, these things were not for me. I have always been in the position to inspire others to seek after their dreams, visions, and goals in life encouraging them to know they are worth more than they see that they do not have to mimic someone else to be their own original self. Let me not forget the fact that our young ladies have had to face some hardships in their short young lives and to some they tend to get stuck there because they are full of hurt and anger and they don’t believe anyone has noticed them but I’ve noticed them and I want to help them overcome their pain. I never thought about this becoming a business; because it was something I love to do which was to help them become a more positive thinking person. It was not until my last two business ventures I was trying to get some questions answered some type of direction to head into some help. I was given wrong, misleading, or no information at all to help me. That good ole fashioned light bulb popped up over my head with a glow shining ever so bright tell me besides inspiring, encouraging, teaching, and educating them which I love to do; Angela you can also give them more information about business, leadership, unity, and love. I could make them into fun classes while encouraging them to love themselves as well as others, how to help and support each other. Most of all, how to be themselves and be okay with who they are because if they do not even like themselves, they would not expect anyone else to. In 2000 LadiesConnecting was created to do just that but In 2017 LadiesConnecting Inc. was recreated to not only pour life into our young ladies but to also pour into our mature women by helping them search for their purpose in life with clarity. We are on this earth for only a short time and while we are here, we should want to work the plan set before us which is helping and loving one another which in return would be helping ourselves.

We are always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we have spoken with enough people to know that it is not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This has been a bumpy and confusing road to travel but the one thing that allows for smoothness is the fact that I love what I am doing. IT has not been easy, but it should not be this hard. If we would work the purpose given to us. No one wants to stay down but no one wants to pull up others once they get up. I am still trying to get into a school so that I may be able to implement my program. So, until that happens, I will continue to give my own events and speak to whoever will come and listen and lean an ear when needed. I have spoken with so many different ages from our young ladies to our women. One of the struggles I have had and still having is how we as women do not want to help each other. With all these women empowerment, we are not willing to give without always receiving something back. I know that we are in business to make money however, we should also know that we are living to help others. I have also noticed one of the reasons we as women choose not to help others which is because we believe that we can do it all and we cannot. and there are so many things that are different about how you do things vs how I am doing those somewhat same things. I have come across some women who are giving back to our younger ladies and their giving is totally different from mine. It is like we are all human (same) but we are all different and it is our differences that allows our work to be different. My advice would be to give of yourself and in your giving, it will be given unto you and it’s ok.

So, as you know, we are impressed with LadiesConnecting Inc. – tell our readers more, for example what you are most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am most proud of it when I see the outcome of the workshop and the fact that I am there to be an ear for someone who just needs someone to listen. I am willing to help someone else and to see their face to know that someone out here in this world cares about them and how they are feeling at that moment that right there is a proud moment. I am an Impartation Strategist. I create a safe space for our young ladies and mature women to have a conversation with each other. I am here to help you gain clarity to your racing thoughts. I am all about you seeing the beauty in you which comes with loving you for who you are, being the person you were created to be, just knowing that it’s okay for you to be you. I do not believe you can fully love or even care about someone else unless you have all of this for yourself. I listen to what you are saying well actually beyond what you are trying to say and even though you are not sure we are together, clear up your view. I specialize in listening and being compassionate. We all have some type of attitude rather it is good or bad sometimes we are not sure how to use it and we should all anger to creep in it because a bad attitude and anger is a bad combination and it can and will go south very quickly. What I am most proud of as a brand is when we are connecting as one for the short time we are together and how if I am able to reach more than one young lady into seeing how important she is to herself gives me a great feeling. I am not sure what sets me apart from others other than the fact that I am me and I try not to allow what others are doing affect me not do what they are doing because it’s working for them it may not work for me.

There is a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
You are your best mentor however I do know that having like minded people around you are important and you can also learn from those who are not. Maintain being yourself and in building your network take notes from all of them.
