Today we’d like to introduce you to Na’Talya Johnson.
Hi Na’Talya, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Celebrations were always a favorite of mine, no matter how big or small. Friends and family would throw parties and I would always help with decorations or planning the party/event. Over the years, I would gather party supplies from various events to add to my collection The first event I planned through and through was for my mom’s 50th birthday party in 2016, that is when I knew that planning a major party by myself was not it! I knew I needed to focus on a particular part of the party and then maybe work my way back to whole events. I have planned engagements, birthdays, and holiday parties. My New Year’s resolution for 2019 was to start my business. I was unsure of a name but knew I wanted to start designing dessert tables and creating backdrops, primarily through various balloon creations. I was determined to come up with a name for my business. I knew I wanted the name to start with an N. And while visiting a fellow teachers classroom -I am an educator- the word “incredible” stood out to me on one of her posters, so I dropped the “I” and added an apostrophe to resemble the spelling of my first name.
I am so critical about the work/designs that I create, which caused me to not take myself too serious during year one of N’Credible Designs. N’Credible Designs launched July 8, 2019. Seven, the number of completion, which meant to me to stop being scared and just go for it. Eight, the number of new beginnings, which to me was N’Credible Designs, a new beginning. I would put off jobs and/or give them to others in the same respect due to my fear of imperfection. I started off by posting once a month and not really promoting my work, March of this year, I took a break from posting. I ended up creating a summer-filled balloon backdrop for a friend’s backyard brunch in June, and let’s just say, that Quarantine Brunch put N’Credible Designs back on the map. After that design was posted, I ended up having a balloon job every weekend to this date! I could not believe it. When it is your time, you will know. I know 2020 may not have been so good to most, but I am thankful that I was able to be still and focus on something that I had been wanting to accomplish for a long time. Today, N”Credible Designs has been blessed to be apart of various birthday, wedding, baby shower, house warming, and holiday celebrations. We greatly appreciate all of our supporters and we look forward to what God has in store for us in the near future, Stay tuned! “Today is a GREAT day to be N’Credible!”
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, there have been obstacles; nothing worth having comes easy. Some of the obstacles I have endured along the way includes: choosing the name, transportation, and time management. The first time I hashtagged N’Credble, I immediately received a message from a company stating I could not use the chosen name because it was already taken. I was distraught and felt like that was another sign for me to postpone my dream even further. Another incident I was faced with was transportation. In mid-June, I was in a car wreck while on the way to pick up a backdrop display from a party. That wreck caused me to be without my suv for two months. I was originally placed in a sedan, which was extremely too small for my supplies. Not being able to prepare more due to limited space cut into the setup time. My goal is to usually be out from each event at least 15-30 minutes prior to the start time. At some events, I would find myself working right up until the time the event would start. These obstacles helped me grow by showing me how to manipulate my time into being more productive.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in balloon and backdrop styling. I create various balloon decor designs to help any event become N’Credible. My return clients and word-of-mouth business I receive is what I’m most proud of. It makes me realize my creative talent can and will carry me to the next level. What sets me apart from other balloon designers is my ability to connect with my clients to ensure that their needs and visions are exceeded. When they feel good and are able to enjoy their designs, that makes my creations that much easier.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something surprising about me is that I am very meticulous and hard on myself regarding my designs. I often find myself overthinking and/or over-creating to not only support my clients visions, but to also explore the abstractedness in my brain. The support I receive from my team aids a great deal in keeping me focused on my vision.
