Life & Work with Alberto Pineda of North Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alberto Pineda

Hi Alberto, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Started in California as the completion of a dream, very humble, just my wife Mariana and myself. Great beginning, open 2nd location within two years, 3 years after that we came to Houston as we have family here and didn’t find tacos like ours around the area where we came to visit. It’s been 2.5 years here, it’s been hard but even if slowly, it has came to a point where we are breaking even, which is good. We know about food, about tacos because WE ARE MEXICAN 😂, and we worked at restaurants for over 25 years prior to opening our own place. Our flavor are from all over Mexico, central to north mainly. Tacos de birria from Tijuana, pastor from Mexico City and so on.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not smooth at all. Talking only about Houston…. We are JUST this last couple months breaking even… 2.5 years later!!! Labor is hard to get… prices on whatever we buy have been going up more than we can logically adjust prices. Surprise expenses like a broken ac and broken meters have take a toll on us too…. Sudden closing beacause of the weather….

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Personally I’m in charge of making sure everyone has whatever they need to do their job, look for best possible ingredients, new items in the menu. Mariana takes care of the numbers and payroll, HR.
As a business, there’s no tacos like ours in Houston… maybe a place has a great taco or item on the menu, but as a whole, there’s no taquería like ours…. Over 8 proteins to choose from, different presentation in tacos and a full bar with fresh fruit margaritas and fruit infused tequila margaritas make Tacos El Patron unique and amazing. We are very proud of what we do.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Quality meats, variety of options, the fact the we sale mainly tacos is also appealing… our margaritas and great service
