Life & Work with Alyssa Flores of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Flores.

Hi Alyssa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey with makeup started long before I ever realized it could become a career. Ever since I was around seven years old, I remember begging my mom for those little toy makeup kits, the ones that were basically just Vaseline and coloring. I was completely fascinated by beauty and self-expression from such a young age. By the time I turned eleven, I had already started sneaking into my mom’s and sisters makeup collection. Of course, i would get in trouble for it, but looking back now, those moments were the very beginning of everything.

At thirteen and fourteen years old, I became known as “the girl who always wore makeup” in middle school and high school. I was still learning, and makeup definitely did not look the way it does now, especially with the products we had back then, but I loved every second of it. Makeup quickly became more than just a hobby to me, it became something I genuinely looked forward to every single day. It made me feel confident, creative, and happy.

By the time I got to high school, I was waking up at four in the morning just to do my makeup before school. I loved the process that much. As prom, graduation, and school events started coming around, girls would begin asking who could do makeup, and my friends would recommend me. At first, I only practiced on friends for fun and never charged because I simply loved doing it. But during my sophomore year, I started getting more and more inquiries, and for the first time I thought, “Maybe I could actually turn this into something bigger.”

When I turned sixteen, I got my first job at Jack in the Box. I worked there for about a year and a half, I saved almost everything to invest into makeup products and inventory. I slowly built my kit piece by piece with a dream in mind. At sixteen turning seventeen years old, I officially took my very first paying client and charged $25 for a full face of makeup.

I am now twenty-three years old, and starting my business was one of the best decisions I have ever made. What I love most about this career is not just makeup itself, but the connection and confidence that come with it. Every client has a story, and being able to make someone feel beautiful, confident, and seen is something I never take for granted.

I truly believe that when you look better, you feel better, and when you feel better, you carry yourself differently in every aspect of life. Makeup is art to me, but it is also empowerment. Every woman deserves to feel beautiful, confident, and celebrated, and sometimes all it takes is a little artistry and a little glitter ✨

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not always. Like anything meaningful in life, there have definitely been ups and downs. I started building my business at a very young age, so I was learning makeup artistry while also learning confidence, discipline, communication, and entrepreneurship all at once. There were moments of self-doubt, financial stress, and times where I invested almost everything I had back into my business, hoping it would eventually pay off.

One of the biggest lessons I learned was to stop comparing myself to others and focus on staying authentic and consistent. Even through every challenge, my passion and vision for this career never changed. Makeup has never felt like just a job to me, it feels connected to my purpose and something I genuinely love doing every single day.

Looking back now, I can confidently say this journey has been one of the best things that has ever happened to me, and every obstacle helped shape me into the artist and woman I am today.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
am a makeup artist based in Houston, Texas, and I also travel to surrounding cities for my clients. I specialize in makeup for all occasions and events — from weddings and quinceañeras to photoshoots, social events, and special occasions. My goal has always been to create looks that enhance natural beauty while making each client feel confident, glamorous, and truly seen.

One of the things I am most proud of is how far I have been able to grow my brand through authenticity, passion, and consistency. What sets me apart most is my dependability, attention to detail, and the genuine connection I build with my clients. Every face, every story, and every client is unique to me.

I also take pride in being an inclusive artist. I have experience working with all skin tones, skin types, and features, from very fair skin to deep skin tones, mature skin, textured skin, acne-prone skin, and everything in between. Beauty has no limits, and I truly believe every person deserves to feel beautiful, confident, and celebrated.

Beyond paid work, I have also done charity and community work simply because I love sharing my artistry with others. For me, makeup is about much more than appearance, it is about confidence, empowerment, and helping people feel their absolute best.

What’s next?
My plans for the future are honestly to keep showing up every single day and continue doing what I truly love. I want to keep growing as an artist, expanding my brand, and continuing to inspire and empower women through beauty and confidence.

One of my biggest goals is to eventually create nonprofit organizations that help women and children who may not have had the opportunity to prioritize themselves, their confidence, or even the way they feel due to difficult life circumstances. I want to use my platform and success to give back and make people feel seen, valued, and beautiful inside and out.
More than anything, I just want to continue trusting God’s plan for my life, staying consistent, and following the passion and purpose that has been placed on my heart.
