Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Funes & Jessica Rangel.
Hi Amanda Funes & Jessica Rangel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Jessica: “Amanda and I had both been performing in Houston for more than a decade, so we spent years experiencing the industry from the artist side. When a restaurant owner approached us about helping organize their live music program, we said yes and quickly realized we loved the management side of the business just as much as performing.”
Amanda: “What started as a way to create more opportunities for ourselves and our musician friends turned into something much bigger than we ever expected. Jessica and I are best friends, so going into business together felt completely natural. There was never any hesitation.”
Jessica: “As we continued working with that first restaurant, other venue owners began reaching out. The growth happened very organically through relationships and word of mouth.”
Amanda: “We never expected Twin Flame to grow as quickly as it did, but we’re incredibly grateful for it. Today, we oversee entertainment for restaurants, hotels, private events, and venues across multiple markets, and we’re still building with the same passion for music and artists that inspired us from the beginning.”
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Jessica: “It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s true of any business. One of the biggest lessons has been learning to pivot quickly and adapt when things don’t go according to plan. We’ve also had to learn when to stand firm, when to walk away from opportunities that aren’t the right fit, and how to protect the long-term vision of the company. Thankfully, being able to navigate those challenges together has made the process a lot more enjoyable.”
Amanda: “For me, the biggest challenge was honestly the pace of the growth. I expected Twin Flame to grow slowly over the first couple of years, but opportunities started coming in almost immediately. It was exciting, but it was also overwhelming. We had to build systems, find the right artists, and learn as we went. One thing I’ve learned is that talent alone isn’t enough you need artists who are professional, dependable, and great to work with. We’ve also had to learn how to advocate for ourselves and our artists, set healthy boundaries, and have confidence in our voice as business owners.”
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Jessica: “I’ve been singing in Houston since I was a teenager. I’ve sung for churches, restaurants, weddings, corporate events, funerals, really just about anything you can imagine. Outside of music, I’m also a PA-C. I’ve always had a passion for helping people, and I’m extremely driven to build something that matters and has a positive impact on our community. One of the things I’m most proud of is seeing Twin Flame grow into something that not only serves our clients, but also creates meaningful opportunities for musicians. I think what sets us apart is that we’re artists ourselves. We understand both sides of the business because we’ve lived it.”
Amanda: “I started singing in church as a kid and have pretty much performed at every type of event imaginable. Music has been my main profession my entire life, and honestly, I’ve never really been interested in anything else. It is the fabric of my being. I love how music and the arts bring people together. I’ve always been someone who enjoys helping people, and that’s a big part of why Twin Flame means so much to me. As of now, a lot of my focus is on growing Twin Flame and coming up with new ways to support our artists and serve our clients. I have a lot of ideas, I’m just working on bringing them to life one by one. Twin Flame was built on an artists-for-artists philosophy, and I’m proud of what we’ve been able to build so far for both our artists and our clients.”
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Jessica: “Starting Twin Flame was a huge risk because we began a competing company to the one we were working for. I had already stepped away from them, but it cost Amanda all of her work at the time. We had to really push and still do to make sure we’re building momentum so we can continue to take care of our families. My perspective on risk is that you have to take calculated and educated risks. If you don’t push forward, you’ll stay in the same place forever, and that’s just not the kind of life either of us wanted to live.”
Amanda: “When Twin Flame was born, Jessica and I were both in the middle of a lot of life changes. Starting a business at that time was a huge risk, but it also gave us the opportunity to build something new together. Looking back, I’m grateful for all the challenges we faced because they helped shape where we are today. I think one thing Jessica and I have both learned through all of this is that we can bet on ourselves. As my therapist likes to remind me, just like everything can go wrong, everything can also go right. Haha.”
