Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Carlson.
Amber, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In April 2024, I had been traveling city to city every weekend to sell my handmade jewelry. 2 years of participating as a vendor, I realized most coordinators really lacked passion to help their vendors succeed.
That, and wanting to work in my own city, I decided to book 3 hot summer months and start a night market. Not just any night market, but one where you wanted to return to- an event for the entire community.
The Sunset Bazaar on 2nd was born. 2nd Saturdays on 2nd St., talented local makers, Artists, local musicians, food trucks, and local performancers. There was nothing like it in the Houston Bay Area. It grew quickly. 3 months organically became monthly.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been easy. In June 2025, we were told by our City Govt that we needed to find another location. “Too frequent” & “too successful” the reason.
Luckily, the community and our vendors rallied to support us. The wonderful owners of Walding Station invited us to use their space. We are right next door to our original location and love being there! We lost space, but not charm! Now, we are nestled into one beautifully lit alley of Walding Station, right behind the popular Main St Bistro. Same vendors, same vibes, just in a more intimate setting.
We have since added a 2nd location, the Bayside Bazaar in the Seabrook/ Clear Lake Area and that’s where we’ll make up for the space lost. Live DJ, karaoke, more vendors, shaded/ indoors, Dress Swaps, and special performances are some of the things you can expect here, along with more food trucks.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the Artist & Maker behind Midnight Clay. I make unique polymer clay creations, everything from jewelry to home decor.
I won the Platinum 2025 ‘Community Votes’ for Jewelry in League City. My jewelry is slow made in small batches, lightweight, durable, & high quality. No niché is my niché. I do not restrict myself to one style. Miniature foods, intricate florals, boho, whimsy, and holiday inspired are some I seemingly do most.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was an extroverted, nerdy tomboy. I loved playing sports AND reading textbooks. I have always loved art, design, and anything outdoors.
