Life & Work with Ann Christensen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ann Christensen.

Hi Ann, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I moved to Houston in 1991 to take a position at UH I have a BA, MA, and PhD in English Literature. I wrote two academic books and am writing a memoir. I am now the chair of English at UH. I have three sons and just ushered my dept through a major building renovation.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the first woman chair of the English dept. At UH I am known for celebrating success of others, supporting and showing up for our students and staff. I have served on the UH Children’s Learning Center Board, the Commission on Women, and other committees that support staff and students. I love to go to students’ readings.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My college literature and philosophy professors from Quincy University in Quincy IL my former chair, J Kastely, my church, Covenant church
feminist scholars, graduate students and junior faculty who bring new ideas for teaching and research donors to the English dept.
