Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Simien.
Hi Ashley, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started years ago when I had an interest in the beauty industry. I was really interested in makeup and decided to make it a side hustle at the time. Although, today, I now do many creative jobs, makeup opened a door to the connections I gained and it also sparked the creative artist in me.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been smooth. I’ve spent many years trying to push myself as solely a makeup artist and even went to school for esthetics when I was meant to do more than that. Of course, I still do makeup for photoshoots and a select few of my clients, but I now create social media content, paint and offer art decor for others. This realization happened when I went through a period of not pursuing anything and stopped running my makeup business. I wanted to explore more of my creative hobbies and find out what’s fulfilling to me. Luckily, others appreciated this new side of me, and the support showed up.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a creative. I can’t put myself in a box because I’m known for many things and to different people. I create art, I offer makeup services and I also create social media aesthetics. I’m really proud to not put myself in a box and being able to do everything that I love to do. What sets me apart from others is not being afraid to be the go-to person for many creative projects. Whenever someone needs makeup for a photoshoot, I’m there. If someone wants to decorate their home with abstract aesthetics, I’m the go-to. If they need help with creating an image for their social media pages, I’m open. Some people believe that you have to be an expert in just one field, but that’s not necessarily true. You can be a Jack (or Jade) of all trades as long as you know your crafts and are skilled in each one.
