Life & Work with Ashley Terry of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Terry.

Hi Ashley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey with Mi’Clre Essence of Skin began with something simple: a desire to create skincare that truly cared for people. As a single mother of four, I’ve always believed that challenges can either break you or build you. I chose to let mine build me.

For years, I balanced multiple jobs in healthcare while raising my children, all while carrying a dream of building something that would leave a legacy. I’ve always had a passion for helping others feel confident and cared for, and that passion eventually led me to handcrafted skincare. What started with researching ingredients, testing formulas, and making small batches at home slowly grew into a brand rooted in quality, intention, and faith.

Today, Mi’Clre offers handcrafted soaps, masks, toners, and body care products made with natural ingredients that are gentle enough for sensitive skin. Every product is created with the belief that skincare is more than looking good—it’s about taking time to care for yourself.

My business is also deeply personal. One of my signature products, the LuMae’ Lavender Massage Bar, was inspired by and named in honor of my late father, making Mi’Clre not just a business, but a way of carrying his memory forward while creating something that serves others.

I’m still building, still learning, and still dreaming. My vision extends far beyond selling soap. I hope to grow Mi’Clre into a nationally recognized wellness brand that partners with hotels, spas, recovery centers, youth organizations, and communities that need a little extra care. I want people to know that no matter where you start, consistency, faith, and hard work can turn a dream into something meaningful.

Mi’Clre is more than skincare it’s a reflection of resilience, purpose, and the belief that everyone deserves to feel cared for.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building Mi’Clre has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done, but it has also been one of the hardest.

Like many small business owners, I started with limited resources. I was learning everything from scratch—product formulation, branding, packaging, website design, marketing, pricing, photography, and the legal side of running a business. There wasn’t a blueprint waiting for me. Every lesson came through trial, error, research, and perseverance.

One of my biggest challenges has been balancing entrepreneurship with everyday life. I’m a mother of four, I work in healthcare, and I wear many hats. There have been days when I questioned whether I had enough time, enough money, or enough experience to build the business I envisioned. There were moments when sales were slow, events didn’t go as planned, and it felt like I was pouring so much into my dream without seeing immediate results.

I’ve also had to overcome the fear of putting myself out there. As a small business, you’re not just selling a product—you’re asking people to believe in you. Learning to confidently tell my story, promote my brand, and keep showing up even when the response wasn’t immediate has been a journey in itself.

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that consistency often matters more than perfection. Every challenge has taught me something valuable, whether it was improving a formula, refining my branding, or becoming a stronger businesswoman. Instead of viewing obstacles as signs to stop, I’ve learned to see them as opportunities to grow.

My faith has also been an anchor throughout this journey. It has reminded me that success isn’t built overnight and that every setback is preparing me for something greater. Looking back, I’m grateful the road wasn’t smooth because the difficult seasons shaped the entrepreneur, I am today.

Mi’Clre is still growing, and so am I. Every order, every customer, every lesson, and every milestone reminds me why I started. This business isn’t just about skincare it’s about creating something meaningful that will outlive me and inspire my children to believe that with faith, discipline, and persistence, they can build something of their own too.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Mi’Clre Essence of Skin, we create handcrafted skincare products—including soaps, facial masks, toners, and body care—made with natural ingredients that are gentle on the skin and crafted with intention. I specialize in products that encourage people to slow down, care for themselves, and embrace healthy skincare without unnecessary additives.

While I’m proud of the products we’ve created, I’m even more proud of the journey it took to build them. My greatest accomplishment isn’t just launching a business—it’s having the resilience and tenacity to keep going when it would’ve been easier to quit. I’ve built Mi’Clre while raising four children, working in healthcare, and navigating the everyday challenges that come with entrepreneurship. Every obstacle has strengthened my determination to create something meaningful that will leave a lasting legacy.

I believe what sets Mi’Clre apart is that every product has purpose behind it. This isn’t a business that was created simply to sell skincare—it’s a brand built on faith, authenticity, and genuine care for people. I take pride in using quality ingredients, continually educating myself, and creating products I would confidently use on my own family.

What also makes Mi’Clre different is my vision. I don’t just see a soap company—I see a wellness brand that can make an impact in homes, hotels, spas, recovery centers, youth organizations, and communities across the country. My goal has always been bigger than skincare. I want people to feel cared for, encouraged, and reminded that even something as simple as washing your face or taking a shower can become an act of self-care.

If there’s one thing I hope people remember about me, it’s not just that I made great skincare—it’s that I never gave up. My resilience and tenacity have been the foundation of everything I’ve built, and I hope my story inspires others to keep believing in their own dreams, no matter where they begin.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is my faith, my family, and the legacy I leave behind.

My faith is what keeps me grounded. It’s what gives me the strength to keep moving forward when things don’t go as planned and reminds me that every challenge has a purpose. I don’t believe success is measured only by financial milestones, but by the lives we touch along the way.

My family, especially my four children, is my greatest motivation. Everything I build is bigger than me. I want my children to see what perseverance, integrity, and hard work look like in real life. I want them to know that dreams are worth pursuing, even when the road isn’t easy, and that it’s possible to create opportunities for yourself instead of waiting for them.

Legacy is equally important to me. I don’t want to simply be remembered for creating skincare products. I want to be remembered as someone who built something with purpose, served others well, and inspired people to believe in themselves. One of the most meaningful examples of that is my LuMae’ Lavender Massage Bar, which I created in honor of my late father. It’s a daily reminder that love, hard work, and the people who shape us can continue to impact others long after they’re gone.

At the end of the day, if my work encourages someone to care for themselves, inspires another woman to pursue her dream, or leaves my children with an example of resilience and faith, then I know I’ve accomplished something far greater than building a business.
