Today we’d like to introduce you to Asia Fields
Hi Asia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been working in social media since 2017. During high school, I worked on the yearbook and that is when I began to start my journey within photography, writing, and videography. After high school, I went to Prairie View A&M University, where my love for sports media, and social media management really began to take off. Here is where I began to find myself and my creativity. Throughout COVID, my love for videography and writing began to double. I joined many different organizations on campus that helped me meet people who are in the same fields as me and to help me get out of my comfort zone.
Since graduating in December 2023, I have been working in social media management as well as continuing to do creative writing while getting my masters in Sports Management.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This ride has been one that I will always remember for the simple fact that my ride was one of my own. My road was faced with a lot of self doubt, lack of consistency, and self sabotage. My time at Prairie View A&M University helped me to find people with the same goals as me which helped me to understand how to face certain problems that I could run into. My support system has been very helpful in helping me to navigate the problems with overthinking and always reminding me to get out of my own head and way.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a social media manger. When it comes to social media, a lot of brands are unsure of ways in which they can use the platform in order to grown their business which is where I come in. Begin a social media manager means begin able to be a photographer, videographer, and editor on top of managing social media and a website if there is one. When I work with a client I help to plan their content for a set about of days, look into SEO, photo and video shooting and editing. I am most proud of the jobs that I have done within the sports fields during college and outside. I also worked as a social media manager for a non profit organization name Curls 4 Queens located in Florida helping the black community find affordable hair care for black children.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Begin in this field has taught me how to be a risk taker. Stepping out of my comfort zone can look using a different font, or lens, or maybe color grading in a different way. But it can also mean emailing a brand, person, or business that I want to collaborate with. Working in social media has shown me that the only thing that is holding me back is myself.
